I have my name down on a list for one. Not exactly sure if I am going to get it, but I will be needing a bigger car soon. No leg room in the back seat for my son.

P.S. and it would go so well with my 1960 Morris Mini Traveller.

Sold the Cooper. Now driving the Traveller. I mean Clubman.

If I need a bigger car I would look at one. It does have more doors and more load space than my current MINI. It just gives me an alternative should I need anything larger and still go to all my MINI club events.
I love my MINIs and have had so much fun and met so many people because of it I would not want to buy a different brand if I didn't have to !

No doubting that they sold these models but I'm sceptical that sales figures amounted to much. (Surely only a small %age of Mini sales during the periods you mentioned?)
Did car buyers back then have the vast choice of vehicles that we can choose from today?
Probably not
Still don't like the new Traveller

Out of 5.3 Million Minis (5,387862) 1959-2000
Just under 1 Million were these models :-
404,606 were Mini Travellers/Countrymans/Clubman Estates,
521,494 were Mini Vans,
58,179 were Mini Pickups
984,279 Total
(Well you did ask)

Car buyers may not have had the vast choice of imported vehicles of today but many people were reluctant to buy such an unusual technically advanced non conventional car in the early 1960s (including my dad who went out & bought a brand new 1966 Ford Anglia instead ! )

Carmag Scoop

It's interesting though.. you get a little bit more each time. These guys are saying March debut which I hope happens so I have more time to plan and spec

Clubman less....

Great pics and liking yet more. But someone needs to tell them that the 'slender lights on the arches' are for the US market .

Another question is how many Cooper S's were actually built. They are actually more rare than you might think. Only about 45,147 were built. That is actually less than total number of Pickups that were built , or Mokes that were built.

Interesting pictures in the Car article (thank you Swamos), but there's an interesting apparent contradiction in the text:

Quote:

"That’s the clever bit. BMW is fitting the Clubman with an asymmetric rear-hinged side door; this left-hand drive test mule has it on the right-hand side, but UK-spec right-hookers will have the single rear door on the kerbside. Apparently, BMW wanted to fit double suicide rear doors, but it interfered with the fuel filler system. Hence the decision to go with a single door."

Apparently they can't fit two suicide doors because of fuel filler problems, yet they will fit the door to the left hand side for UK spec cars?? Perhaps, if BMW really are having a problem fitting doors on both sides, they could look to their own 5 door estate cars to see how to fit a rear door and a fuel filler cap in the same side of the car!

Tigger.

I must admit that did strike me as a little odd. There are plenty of 4 door cars of that size that also have a fuel filler LOL. At any rate at least they are going to put it on the kerbside for RHD

Clubman less....
