It's as brittle as a packet of Fiorelli ! and as sturdy as a lettuce leaf.
Love the exterior however and the Abarth version looks very smart indeed.

Cool

I for one look forward to the arival of this "Clubman". Would be pretty sweet if that whole front end was a one piece flip forward like a 55Chevy hot rod of yesterday!!! And a 2.0 for the extra wieght would be perfect. Give these guys a chance against the "S" cars.

If they pull it off it could be a really good addition to the range, a groundbreaker in terms of a "small estate". There's a lot to pull off though, especially keeping it "MINI". We'll see.

My biggest fear about buying one is it will be a flop and I'll never be able to sell it!!

That's IF MINI bring it to Aus.

Clubman less....

I can't see it being a flop.
Estate agents all over the land are weighing up how many boards they could get in the back of one !

That's one thing for sure, this WILL become the moving billboard of choice for many companies, no two ways about that.

I think it is all rather bizarre!! The estate mini was always seen as an oddity (as far as I can remember)

I guess BMW want to extend the Mini brand's product life and milk it as much as they can,

VW hasnt bought out any futher models based on variants of the Beetle - because very few people would relate to them.

I reckon the Clubman is a mistake and will just dilute the brand. Come on BMW - prove me wrong!!

I think MINI have got it spot on with the Clubman. At least the name revives some mini history, and the rear door set up echoes that of the traveller. It looks superb and will no doubt be very well built. Am very keen to have a closer look at one...

I don't remember the estate Mini ever being an oddity (they sold over 400,000), just a practical alternative to the saloon for some people, as with many other cars of the same era & today. They often got modded too.......usually "S" engine, alloys & disc brakes.

BMW exist to make money from their products like all companies do.

I don't think BMW's 3 & 5 Series brands are diluted by selling estate versions?

VW hasnt bought out any further models based on the Beetle because not many people related to their first attempt (a relative sales flop in Europe with some success in the USA) it is really just Golf running gear and is fwd / front engined........no Beetle DNA. However VW are reported to be working on a new VW Campervan bus. Lets hope it keeps the engine in the back like the original! (Doubt it will be air cooled because of noise regs)

anyhoo, they are going to revive the wrong name - it should be called a Traveller not a Clubman.

Traveller would have suited it better - Clubman sounds a bit gay (no offence) - unless they are going to fit it with a decent hi-fi (unlike the R56) and a stobe light - then they can call it the Mini Club, Man!

Im sure people who bought the original Traveller did so because it was a cheap, small estate car. The Clubman is bound to be overpriced, like the normal Mini.

Most of us mugs are willing to pay over the odds for a small car that looks like an old iconic car because, although it is flawed in many areas, it looks cool and drives like a go cart.

The lack of space in my Mini(s) can be a problem but I wouldn't buy an expensive estate variant of it just because it was more practical. There is no way the performance will be as good and I dont think (judging by the pics I have seen) it would do my street cred any good either.

Where is the market for an overpriced small estate car - that (apart from the double rear doors) looks nothing like the rather ugly original?

People in that market segment want ford focus c-max's and other cheap, dull equivalents!!
