MINI2 and all the local MINI Clubs get sent a certain number of tickets. It's then down to whoever runs that site/club to allocate them to members.

The clubs were all given an allocation... all the MINI2 tickets were given on a first come first served basis.

EDIT: Allocations were quite small this time around... I think most clubs received between 6 and 12 tickets, so you can imagine, these didn't go very far

I had a feeling the allocations had been very small this time around

I can't have been the only one that noticed all the empty seats, and that they could have fitted a fair few more in?

It's very good in my opinion. Wouldn't really suit me at the moment as I have no need for the slightly larger boot space or the Club door but as a family MINI it would serve fairly well. Although it's not the way it was designed, I feel that the Clubman justifies the shape of the R56 and it wouldn't have worked with the first generation shape as well.

Maybe in a few years.

I had that conversation yesterday (I think it was with Rakey and RVW?) and commented that the reason people think that is, unlike the R56, there is nothing to compare this car to.

Had there been a 1st Generation Clubman many people's views would have been very different.

Possibly.

However, Dirk showed some 3D model ideas of possible Clubman variations and those were based on the first generation cars. Now, going on to the 'masculine' feel of the Clubman which he mentioned a few times during his presentation, I do feel that the R56's bulkier appearance contributes to that idea. The first generation MINI was, in my opinion, much more feminine and baby-faced, and this would have deviated from the 'masculine' design values. I know Dirk referred to MINI design incorporating masculine, feminine and baby lines but I do feel that the looks of the first generation were biased toward the feminine and baby sides.

i agree Kev the r50 etc is much more feminine in lines, take the cascase from the roof down the windows and doors and the rear 3/4 panel, the lines are much more muscular on the r56 than the slightly more svelte lines of the previous cars.

Don't get me wrong guys, I was very impressed with the Clubman (apart from the rear door and it's window spoiling the looks ) but I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that this is in part to it being a new model based on the R56, not a new version of a previous model.

You are both right in that it suits the new styling of the MINI range in general more than the Hatchback.

I enjoyed the day too. I like the look of the Clubman but wasn't too keen on the front seat belt being a trip hazard for people getting out of the suicide door... I just loved the Choc Brown interior... The rear end was interesting but IMO not that much extra room and not enough for me to justify a change. All the detachable parts would need to be taken out and stored somewhere if you wanted to load the rear with suitcases and go away on holiday...

On the whole it was a great day... Food was superb...

Have to agree with everyone it was a brill day and Dirk's presentation was really interesting.
I'm still not keen on the Clubman though I do like it more now that I have seen it in the flesh - but as some people have said it would suit a family with a child alot more than a couple (or like me a single) as I can't see the point in paying the extra approx. £1500 for 25cm more car.

(Though I am in love with hot chocolate and the lounge leather to match)

Looking at some of the excellent pictures I am getting the impresion the boot layout is like the Audi A4 Avant with a roll back soft luggage cover. A board over a shallow load compartment and a further board over a wheel well. If the Clubman has a wheel well offering a spare at cost seems a bit stingy but I remember reading that the space would be different if you didnt have a spare wheel (Any Ideas?)
Hopefully there will be chance to see for myself when the "plebs" get a chance to veiw it still keen but waivering on boot size over four doors times cost equation.
