Offline | Just a thought here; I went to Falmouth for Ocean's launch on Sunday and they had a Cooper S Clubman with leather, Chilli, metallic, sat nav, web spokes, sun roof and a couple of other very minor additions and it came in at over £24,000. Just by way of comparison that's £500 more than the street price for a (much more spacious) Golf 3.2 V6 R32 Alternatively, it's less than £3,000 short of an entry level Mercedez-Benz E-Class estate!! And don't think the MINI is going to hold its value any better when such a large proportion of its list price is made up of extras.A basic Clubman D with the bare minimum of pepper pack? That'll be £16,510; £600 more than the similarly powered (and twice the size) 407 estate and £3,500 more than the equivalent 207 estate. Even a 140 bhp diesel Passat estate can be yours for £16,899 Yes, I know they are not MINI's and the MINI is a "premium product" (although any of the Merc E-Class, the Golf R32 or Passat are hardly cheap & nasty!) and I wouldn't actually want any of those alternatives, but it does make for a startling reality check! ![]() Tigger. Online | Just another thought I just ordered a Cooper Clubman for circa 16k It will come with a whole host of goodies via the pepper pack and heated seats. Compared to my two S flavoured Minis with there extremely spartan interior and both costing in the region of 15 - 16k the Cooper Clubman represents extrememly good value for money. I know I am in a miniority but I dont buy into this must have attitude perpetrated by car magazines must have Chilli must ahave aircon etc it didnt do any harm for my trade in. I priced up a few alternatives and they also quickly stack up too, Seat Leon, Ford Focus even a old shape Mondeo none of these happen to have the name Mini on them and at the end of the day I am a Mini Owner and Enthusiast always have been. You mentioned Mercedes we have both the old C class and old Mondeo on the fleet I have driven both and was asked what would I choose well specced Mondeo ST or Ghia (Both bought for less than 16k) or the Merc wich cost much more. My choice would be the Mondeo. |

Offline | With baby on the way, thought this would be ideal. Interesting to see the Hot Chocolate in the flesh. As for the car, not as spacious as I'd hoped, when I first opened the back, I was like 'is that all?'. The false floor did allow a bit more space but still. I liked the Clubdoor though, but why didn't they do it on both sides? the front belt holder in the clubdoor was odd...thought it was caught by accident at first ![]() Having said that I was tempted to order... There's lots to like. Pricey though, I specced to £23k and there are alternatives for a head over heart decision. |

| MINI2 Regular | Went to the Cotswold Hereford Launch last friday. Cars were there - loved them..... as for the 'event' was about as exciting as a church fete. 'Catering consisted of 'hot chocolate' (see what they did there) and mini muffins. Had a chat with the lovely Lucia who is the only reason I keep going back to Cotswold then that was it. Went to leave and was handed a goodie bag. Hoorah! I thought as I delved into it. Alas, all it contained was a Club bar (again, loving the wit), a fridge magnet (don't get excited, it just had the dealer's number and address on it), a scraper and a couple of accessory configurator cds (one for hatch, one for clubber). Not very mini at all I thought |

Offline | S'fine - no problem ![]() With regard to pricing though. Yeah, all MINIs, and the Clubman in particular, are pretty expensive when compared to other cars. I reckon what would make them better value for money would be for the current 'entry level' on the road price for all MINIs to include the Chilli Pack in the basic spec and then tick the options boxes on top of that if you wish. Great as the cars are, I think it's a bit daft to spec one up into the low/mid 20 thousands, especially as there are bigger, and equally prestigious, cars in this price range. SSL |
