MINI Clubman "Flat Load Boot Floor"

Can someone please post pictures or explain what the "flat loading boot floor" actually does?

I understand that it makes the boot the same height as the rear seats when they are folded down. Is it a piece that is removable or is it a permanent feature? If you don't choose this option, can you buy something through the OEM MINI parts department to add it later? And if you don't have this option, is it a boot just like the R56 but larger?

In Canada, it's called the "flat loading floor" and it's part of the "Travel Package" - which is new for the Clubman in 2008.

Hmm I will answer what I know the flat load floor is three quite substantial peices of wood? that fold concertina like back onto the furthest most piece unfortunately leaving one much thicker peice in the way. This leaves a quite deep and usable space space underneath. I did ask at the launch if this peice was removable but they were not sure. I have seen pictures of it removed and one report said you could remove it. If you have the spare tyre you lose the extra space.

This picture shows the boot floor folded onto its self.

At the VIP launch day at the factory I had a fiddle with this addition. Its very clever. I had a chance to remove it from the demo one I had a play with just to see if it was removable as I felt it may get in the way if you wanted the deeper boot without putting the seats down but very useful when you want the seats down with a flat loading area. It also protects the bottom of the seats (especially useful if they are leather) when they are down which currently doesn't happen in the hatch.

Any more questions feel free to ask and I'll see if I can answer. Don't know about the after addition to the car after built though.

I'm loving the carpet in the boot area as well, not like the plastic in my current MINI hatch, which is easily scratched!

Has anyone got a piccy of the parcel shelf?

Have a look here

http://www.mini2.com/2007/09/07/mini...t-from-madrid/

Theres a good picture and some details in Pauls report from Madrid.
The parcel shelf has come in for some critisism but I like the design, the way it has sprung resistance helping it stay taught is very good.

Also, do you know if it's available as an accessory? If it's not ordered from the factory, can it be retrofitted/purchased later?

My guess is that it would be significantly cheaper to specify with your order. Remember that awfully nice concertinating false floor needs to hang on to the side somehow.

BMW's solution is to attach a baton ar each side. If you fix a baton at each side, it might not look quite so good.

Yeah it can be added as an acessory but will require fitting. Theres a bracket either side of the boot it sits on. Will be much cheaper to add it as a factory option.

I have not seen this on the US configurator. Is this an option? How much?

I have the flat load floor option, the floor is very easy to remove, it is just attached with a couple of bits of velcro and a pair of 'lugs' which slot into a side rail similar to that on the load area cover. I find it handy for storing stuff under the flat floor, and then put my regular luggage ontop of the flat floor.

Here are a couple of pics of my boot space:
