| Mini2 Clubman Newbie | Brill review Very honest review of the Clubman. I have currently a R54 Cooper S, and I have been very happy with that. At first I did not like the new R56 model at all. Only with the JCW body kit did it look anything. But.......in time after looking and looking, it grows on you, Same with the Clubman, something differrent, love the back more than the front I will let you all know more after I pick the car up and drive on Thursday. Offline | I did my own research on the Clubman S, including driving tests. Included was visiting the two main Mini sites and reading OWNER reviews. Having done that, I knew the run-flats were going to make the ride even stiffer. That's why I avoided the Sports Package with a more rigid suspension and 17" wheels. That $2,000 price difference allowed me to upgrade from the R56 to the R55 with no additional cost...as I see it. The double barn door storage is why I chose the Clubman S. It's nice to actually use the storage space. The two levels of sub-floor space are a bonus. I stufed a PC/bag in the hidden storage. Permanent fixtures, such as cleaning supplies and towels are out of sight and always available. Get a California duster! As a daddy of days oldClubman S, the only thing the R55/56 needs is a wider storage space below the dash. I expect to keep sunglasses in easy reach without using the hidden dash storage. The MFS-radio controls are completely acceptable and functional. Since most of us blast the radio all the time, why wouldn't a buyer demand a multi-function steering wheel? MFS should be standard, not an option. I dumped a BMW convertible for the R55 Clubman S and have had no second thoughts. The suspension is completely different, yet so are kids, so why compare vehicles. It's a fun ride. As I was out cruising the side roads today, a 911 Carrera pulled up to check out my wagon. I dropped the hammer and was gone. He flagged me down at the next light to talk about his wanting a Clubman now. Bottom line is: Ask a Clubman owner if they love the car. Someone who takes a few hours to test drive won't appreciate upgrading from a different make and model. If you're shy, don't buy a Clubman because people will come up to ask you about your baby. |
