Advice wanted: MCSC JCW vs BMW 128

I hope this is the appropriate forum in which to ask this (broad) question:

On the way back to Oregon yesterday I test drove a new Clubman S with the JCW pkg. It was fantastic. Today I drove a new BMW 128. Fantastic in a different way.
With options, they are both very close to US$40k.

This being a Mini forum, am I correct in assuming that all of you here would take the Mini, given the choice? Does the decision boil down to subjective preference criteria?

(There is, of course, the issue of what US$40k could get in the used market, but that is certainly a different thread)

After reading many well articulated discussions on these pages, I would appreciate the group's feedback on the merits of the two models.
