Roof-rails or Spoiler?????

Hi.

Should I buy a clubman (S) with the roof rails / bars or a rear spoiler?

It seems you cant have both?

I may well put a roof box or bike rack on the top, so do I have to spec rails?

But then again how often would I use the rails and almost all the pictures are of the Clubby without rails....

and the spoiler looks cool on the clubby's truncated rear end

Fanks!

The A-Team van spoiler?

You definitely need the spoiler OR the rails, but I can see why you can't have both - I think they'd really clash.

I was a big fan of the rails until I saw them in person... kinda makes the Clubby look like an overturned sledge? I'd go with the spoiler.

I'd assume you can still add a bike rack or roof box at a later date, even without the rails, in much the same way you'd fit one to the hatch?

EDIT: OK, so "standard" spoiler is much tamer than the JCW one, and probably would look fine with the rails. Can these definitely not be spec'd in tandem?

funny - A team van - yep love it, proper B.A.

I think i'm going off the rails (no pun intended)...i've seen a few pics and think I prefer the smooth roof with a B.A. Baracus spoiler (maybe I should get a black JCW with red roof then?)

Yes, I think you can deffo cut some holes to add the roof bars (transverse ones) rather than the rails which run longitudinally - dont think you can add these later...

And nope the config turns off the rails once the spoiler is selected - spoilsports!

Absolutely!

The reverse of this would look (even more!) lush I reckon, not to mention with the JCW kit on!

Roof bars are for those who have given up on life and lead their lives in the slow lane.

The dealer seemed to find it strange that I didn't want them - and you get no rebate if you decline them at specification time.

Maybe the factory has a warehouse full of roof bars that they are trying to shift? Just another component that adds weight, increases the drag factor and collects dirt.

Benhar, Breich and Forth a-go-go!

Love that pic of the JCW, thanks Minicore.
I've been quoted £1900 for the kit which means I might as well buy another JCW - but I wanted something a bit quieter and less full-on than my jcw so....

....but £1900! come one!
does anyone on the forum fit them? Woodmans is it?

I made the mistake of assuming that the spoiler was a default part of the S package on Clubmans here in the US, as it is on the Coupes. So I ordered without, but intended to have one. I learned soon after that it cannot be aftermarket or dealer added, in the sense that it requires drilling the roof, whereas the JCW spoiler is a glue-on.

Mine as roof rails, I would like a spoiler, but it was a toss up and roof rails won, I use a roof box and bike racks, but one thing is for certain I have NOT given up on life or live in the slow lane.

Exactly. Roof rails are useful, spoiler is purely cosmetic.

I dont need to make my car go faster, I just need to learn to drive it faster.

Definately the Spoiler - there's no contest! Roof rails make it just look like a family run around

looks great!

we have the rails and actually like them more than we thought we might... gives the clubman a 'wagon' look that works imo

Go for roof rails every time, especially on the Chili Red/Black model, they look superb. The spoiler just looks silly, too boy racer-ish, in my opinion.
