| Major problems - looking for advice I'm looking for some advice as I have some major problems with my 2009 diesel Clubman. The car has 75,000km on the clock.
First of all, this car has had all the scheduled maintenance. In the summer, my water pump went and the dealer replaced the water pump and timing belt under warranty in early September.
A month prior to this, the car had a problem with the sunroof resolved - major rattling, not opening when hot.
In May, I also reported a rattling noise coming from the transmission that sounded like a sewing machine operating deep in the engine. Dealer informed me that it was normal for this model and was either the transmission or DMF.
It is now november - the water pump is on it's way out again and now, in addition to the rattle from the transmission, the clutch is slipping. (In 4th gear, under high load, revs jump and car does not accelerate). Before you blame "driver error", I will qualify that by saying that I've been driving manual transmission cars since I was 16, that makes 23 years driving experience. I've driven Chevy Cavaliers, Honda Civics, Honda Preludes, Volkswagen Jettas and now a Mini. This is the first clutch I've ever had slip on me. I think it's related to the rattling problem. I put this down to the rattling related to the dual mass flywheel. Car does overwhelmingly highway driving, with no stop and start.
I believe problems of this magnitude are not normal at this amount of mileage. But I am now faced with them so I must act and the car is no longer under warranty.
I have some questions:
1) What is the ballpark figure (cost-wise) for a clutch and flywheel replacement (not under warranty) at a Mini dealership?
2) Has anyone else experienced anything similar with their Mini Clubman?
3) Why would a water pump die a mere 2 and 1/2 months after replacement?
4) Should I get rid of this car?
5) Any possibility of a partial "goodwill" given the mileage?
I love the Mini marque, but this is completely retarded for a car that is just over 2 years old with under 100,000 kms on the clock. I fear for the future and the costs I might incur.
Any advice would be highly appreciated. I was extraordinarily proud to own and happy with this car...now... not so much. Were I to repeat this again, I would certainly not purchase a Mini, I am that discouraged. |
