So the rumours are that the new MINI will be announced next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show? Anyone priviledged enough to be visiting?

From the inside line on edmunds.com...

FRANKFURT, Germany — Frankfurt show goers will get a Mini surprise. BMW's British division will give the first glimpse of the second-generation Mini with a new concept car called Countryman.

The car is a preview of the wagon version of the next-generation Mini, due in 2007. At least six body styles and two wheelbases are expected. The Countryman will be the first example of the longer wheelbase.

Seems the roof over the boot is retractable, similar to the gmc ideas with a retractable rear roof to accomidate taller items. by the way that idea failed miserably here in the states and they no longer have that as an option, probably because it didnt work very well.

The concept does look very land roverish

Looks like a Discovery at the rear, resembles a Mini in the middle then switches to an Aston Martin nose with Mini grille and scoop. Interior looks pretty cool (futuristic) but I dont know whether to love it or hate it

Any news on the ....lightweight LE Mini?

It does look landrover-eque a bit. Also I've had a couple of people say it looks a bit Porsche Cayenne (sp?!), neither of which is a good thing in my books!
