It's funny how the seats in the background look like the same colour as the purple the paint has faded into....

United-States Apologies...

...but, if it does not look great in pictures odds are that it does not look great in "real life".

That color is mildly disturbing... to me at least. I would opt for the sapphire blue metallic.

No paint work is worth five thousand pounds... unless it is 24kt gold paint... w/diamonds.

I know of many a body shop that will strip the car to bare metal and do a better custom paint job than the one depicted... and one that I can warrant would be far more durable than Mini's. All for just $1800, or so...

For five thousand pounds you could travel, ship the car, get it painted, and have a vacation for 10 days and ship the car back home... and probably have a good bit of cash left in your pocket.

It is not how fast you go, but how you go.

1800 dollar.... In the US perhaps.

This kind of paint (flip flop or chromaflair as Nissan calls it) is between 500 and a 1000 euro per litre.
Than the labour at 70-80 euro an hour.
I would say the minimum price for a good paintjob with this kind of paint would be at least 3000 euro (2150 pounds/3600 dollar).

I've seen OEM paintjobs on US cars here in Holland and the clearcoat just drops off after 10 years. This is not the quality we are used to in Europe.

Cheers,
Peter

its grim.

The flip paint is normally only an extra £3000, so either that dealer is trying to impress or trying to rip someone off

Its only a forum you know!

I really like the paint job.............screw the money, it's nice to forget about the dosh once in a while.

Kind of nice just admiring another Mini, without wondering wot the hell it cost.

Nice pics Jordan.

Australia

After looking at it a couple of times now I'd have to say that I like it
I believe the extra money would have been spent painting the aero kit

United-States Just have to say...

...It is almost like you have "bought in" to the stories these paint folk tell.

I'm here to tell you... don't buy in (to their BS)... and don't get a paint job like the one in the pic above. That paint job may seem dear in terms of cost... but not a reason to buy the car depicted or get a car painted like it ! It basically turns a beautiful car into a "disco machine"... And that color.... what were they thinking?

You would think that this "bucket" of "special paint" is some rare blend of "precious isotpes from outerspace". They are not. Pearlescent paint jobs are a dime a dozen over here. When they become that way over yonder... the price will come down.... if not, something is very wrong over there. Besides... the paintwork in the pic above is a waste !

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.... before casting a proverbial stone at the quality of "our clear coat" in the USA (very subjective) based on your "experience" you should take a hard look at the Mini paintwork... it is not without its problems (I love the car anyway).

I have seen equally "bad" German paint... and Italian, French, Swedish, and yes... British paintwork... all on late model cars. I do not really understand the "not the quality we are used to in Europe" line. Are you saying that we do not "expect quality" here in the US?

Paint jobs in general are no longer "decent and durable" because "they" have never figured out how to replace the lead that used to be in fine laquer. That is why, in reality, all paint jobs basically stink on ice.... they just don't last. (not that I would ever advocate the use of lead in paint). Enamel and Urethane simply do not compare. two step, three step... etc, Sikkens... PPG, Dupont, Sherwin.... heck, they all stink.

The "fine green paintwork" on the car above will be history if the car is driven for just 75,000 miles. If you just want to make into a showpiece... or even a salad bar.... then the paint might last a bit longer... or perhaps Xpel might consent to making a "full body paint protection kit" for the car... so the owner could preserve its inherent uglyness.....

.....forever !

I did not challenge anyone to "get a car painted 'that way' for $1800" in Europe either...

I said it can be done here... in Texas. I proffered that one could take a trip here from Britain with their car, spend ten days on vacation... and return with a custom paint job... for $5000... basically the money you guys might spend on just the paint job.... in sunny old Europe.

And... it would be a "quality paint job"...

It is not how fast you go, but how you go.
