Angry Rain dripping on seat!!!

I wonder if any of you convertible owners have this same problem. Every time I open the door of my ’05 MCSC in the rain, water channels off the roof in a single stream, directly onto the seat and steering wheel. It’s not just a drip, but a steady stream. It is impossible to get in without sitting in the puddle that forms on the seat!

I watched the water flow in the “rain gutter” on the top, and the water is directed into a channel that drips straight down right where the top meets the windshield. I would think that BMW engineers would have discovered this. Water does not drip anywhere else. This is extremely annoying, and I almost want to leave it at home when it rains!

Does anyone else have this problem, or does my car just have a defect?

All convertibles have this problem, the gap in the guttering seems to be a "feature". Genuine leaks are amazingly rare.
My only suggestion is to close the door quickly!

One club member locally with a cabrio had an issue with water getting inside the cabin, the answer in the end turned out to be most unusual

inside the two front windsceen support pillars are drain channels which allow water to run away. A spider had made a home inside the top of this channel stopping the water from draining away as designed. This made for lots of wet inside cabin experience!

it might be worth checking to see if these drains are still clear on yours!

best regards,

Marcus

Its completely normal on the convertible to get this, and fairly easy to get around......

When you approach the car, quickly wipe your hand along the gutter claering it of excess water (takes 2 seconds) then hop in quickly!! yes, your hand is slightly wet, just wipe it on ur jeans

I've never noticed this problem being any worse on teh convertible than the tintop

used to get drips on that, be it from the roof or the door.

never used to bother me too much either

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

This is exactly the same in my 2004 hard-top Megane Convertible, which is about to be replaced by a MCSC!!!!

And on my Pug convertible. It has no gutter and the water pours off. You soon learn not to go round left hand bends with the window open.

With my top treated (RaggTopp), the water beads and then is ready to roll off quickly. If there is a lot of water on the top, I just open and shut the door (firmly), step back, wait a second for the water to roll off, then get in. Once in awhile I get a little water in my seat (or on my shoes ) but this usually works well.
