| knowing me, knowing you | Would you go back to a hard top? My problem deciding what to buy next is hard top or soft top? GP or new Convertible JCW? Any of my fellow soft top owners thought about their next purchase and the idea of loosing the convertible driving? Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | Went from a MCSC to a MCS, I haven't missed the convertible that much over the winter but the other night it was really warm and on the way home I had the windows down and the sunroof back - I'd forgotten how good the engine sounds with the roof down! Definately been missing the convertible since then! Although having said that my MCSC was hyper blue with a blue roof and I saw that as much more of a fun looking car but the MCS I have not is PS/B with aero kit and stripes and spotlights and I love the look of it. Basically can't help you much as I can't make a decision myself. Tempted to get the Sidewalk but only really for the unique Silver White colour if I like it when I finally get a good pic of it. |

Offline | Rag top, every time. Yes, the visibility is rubbish. Yes, you really should get a strut brace fitted. Yes, it's a lot heavier. Yes, it's got even less room... ... but when the suns out and it's warm enough (better than 12C by my reckoning), having the roof down more than makes up for it! ![]() If you can't be good... be good at it! |

| knowing me, knowing you | A girl who takes after me, see this is what I fear, that I have the roof down as long as its dry, not just when its sunny ![]() But a new MCSC would set me back 28k at least, a GP 20k and probably hold that value better than a MCSC ![]() Its only a forum you know! ![]() |

Offline | I've currently got an MCSC and if I ever bought another MINI I would get a hardtop. The MCSC interior is too dark Hyper Blue/Blue MCSC with Chilli 'No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself' A. Carnegie |

Offline | I suppose you could get a GP, see how you like it and even if you only kept it 6 months you probably wouldn't lose that much money on it, then you'd still have time to order a current shape MCSC. It's a tough one, I think you'd miss the toplessness too much, especially now Jo has a hard-top ![]() ![]() |

| \\ World Record Holder // | i don't think roof down, blackpool and night time would normally go together, but on this occasion, even if it's hat scarf and gloves weather, as long as it's dry, it'll be topless all the way! will be keeping an eye on this link in the next couple of days... Offline | I really don't know... I guess there are reasons for and against. There are times, albeit very few, when the soft top is just so darn noisy. I do a lot of miles, and sometimes having raise your voice when going on the motorway to be heard is a bit of a pain. Then the sun comes out, the roof goes down and all is forgiven. Might wait and see if the next gen is more refined... ![]() |

Offline | You have to think why you bought one in the first place. I Know the reasons why i wouldn't noise, it rains alot in England, chassis not quite as stiff. But for the same reasons i didn't get a sunroof either, The GP is a hell of a car and i miss mine but all you stand to gain is a better drive but on the other hand you loose the cabrio which to me was the selling point of your existing car over a hard top JCW. Plus I lossed quite a bit on my GP as i did 9k on it in 6months financial you'd be better off waiting to see the new JCW hard top first. ![]() |

Offline | I've only ever owned one car where I could go topless and that was the Suzuki Cappuccino which was great as you could go entirely topless, or targa using the hardtop panels. I would still love an open top car but definitely not a MINI I'm afraid. To put a fly in the soup ragtops are just getting a little old hat these days and personally I would prefer the extra refinement of the new generation folding roofs. I just think you have the best of both worlds and none of the pram looks of a fabric roof. I have to say I love the new MX5 coupe and dare I say the the new 207 CC and VW EOS, theyre just alot more sophisticated and safer to leave in dodgy area without having the roof slashed ![]() |

Offline | I solved the problem by having both. My daughter now uses the Cooper Hardtop and I drive the MCSC. Since I had old Mini Saloons and a Mini Traveller which I loved, I will be first i line at my dealer to get a MINI Traveller/Countryman/Clubman but I will still enjoy driving my Convertible - which I drive with the Top down when there is no precipitation except when the Temperature gets below -15 degrees C because MINI say that the Roof mechanism will break its cables at that temperature. If you know how many MINIs you have you don't have enough ... |
