Offline | i have a mini cooper convertible, mini coooper and R53 Cooper S. The convertible has a very different ride to the other two cars. You can feel the rear rool bars wobble when you go over bumps - i was rather bemused when the dealer told me the ride was no different. It is no way as compromised a ride as other rag tops but you cant say there is no difference at all. |

Offline | When I decided to go for a convertible this is the one thing that kinda put me off. The advantage of a retractable tintop is roof up the the 207cc retains over 70% of the standard hatchback ridigity. I also like the fact that Peugeot were wise to put strengthening braces in the rear wings which I hadn't heard of being used before. I can't see how any fabric roof car can be as rigid unless it has a ton of floor stengthening. I definitely noticed the MINI convertible compared to my Old tin top S felt wobbly and shuddered which kinda put me off driving it, hence going for a girls car lol. I wasn't really that bothered how it looks so long as it drives and handles nicely ![]() Corsa VXR, Flame Red, 18" Alloys, S&L Pack |

Offline | I really don't understand these comments about the MCSC rattling and the roll bars wobbling. I have been driving my MCSC since Nov 16th 2004 and have put nearly 23,000 miles on it and there are STILL no rattles. Nothing rattles or wobbles on this car and I do drive it on some really pot-holed filled roads. The roll bars CANNOT wobble - anyone who has been on a factory tour knows that the roll bars are actually solid blocks of metal which are welded solidly to form the back of the bodyshell!!!! Out of the 23,000 miles I have driven the car I would estimate that I have only had the top up for elss than 1.000 miles including driving though the upstate New York winters in temperatures down to minus 15 celcius. The MCSC keeps you perfectly warm down in those temperatures with the heated seats and a very powerful heater. Also, as far as I can see that peugeot does not have rear seats that are usable for human adults and I can assure you that my MCSC can and does hold four adults regularly incluidng occasions when I have sat comfortably in the back seat and I am sx feet tall and weigh 395 pounds (that's 29 Stone in real money). Finally as far as luggage space, the MCSC with the top down has the luggage capacity of a small pickup truck when you use the back seats folded flat down. Every year, I take my set of four wheels and tyres to the dealer to get the snow tyres switched on and off at the end of each winter season and the four wheels and tyres fit in the rear seat space - and I still have the boot available. If you know how many MINIs you have you don't have enough ... |

Offline | Nice cabrio...but it definetely ain't no MINI... hehe ![]() I think it would be good if MINI decided to do a tintop roof on the cabrio... might make it a bit more popular with the people who have had problems with roof wear and tear.... ![]() Last edited by MINIAC : May 10th, 2008 at 10:09 PM. | cook pass babtridge | well since i recently traded my tin top cooper for a new MX5 roadster coupe i feel i can add to the discussion. i test drove both the soft top MX5 & the new folding hard top, which is composite, not metal, to keep the weight down - as a comparison this design added 37kg to the weight of the car over the soft top, the pug 307cc added over 200kg over the hatchback. to be honest there wasn't much to choose between them in terms of noise & refinement but i felt the hardtop would be a better idea given my mileage of 50 miles a day commute through all weathers. so far i've been very happy with my choice & the roof is down more than up, thanks in part to an excellent heater & heated seats. for me the difference with the MX5 is that it is designed as a 2 seat convertible, not a compromised hatchback design |

| \\ World Record Holder // | people will say they prefer whichever one they have, i'll give some examples to back up my opinions, and then i'll give some examples that don't back them up!! ![]() first of all, i am a cloth roof man! there aren't many traditions left in cars these days, mini did a lot to bring tradition back, and the cloth roof is one of them - i love my car and it's like a hard top when the roof is on and i don't find it any different. i also like the fact that the new alfa has gone with a cloth roof - despite the designers designing it with a metal origami roof as clarkson says - the top dogs said no - it must be cloth!however - i think bmw have done a great job of the new 3 series convertible - so i would have one of those... ![]() ![]() Guinness World Record Holder 'Largest Parade of MINI Cars' 28th March 2007 |

Offline | I do NOT got for this discussion of "girls car versus guys car" I consider that a no-brainer. A car is just a mechanical conveyance. Its like saying "Concord" was a girls plane because it was so beautiful. Let's drop this nonsense. The reason for a "metal hard top" as opposed to a "soft top" in a MIN is simply size. I have bought my cars 'cos I think they look good TO ME! and have the power and facilities I require at the time. Metal folding roofs are too heavy for small cars and THAT is the only reason I don't consider them. Anyone who has this "girls car versus guys car" attitude has a growing up problem, . |

| Work'd Up ! | ![]() I think you missed the point, the main discussion is Soft Top V's Tintop, most of it is on topic, the rest is harmless banter between myself and Tim (who knows im messing around x). And my opnion only, a car is not just a mechanical convienience to get you from A-B, i could have chosen anything for that, its a MINI, and granted mines not a Cabrio now, but its about the car, MINI ![]() ![]() |
