Help

Hi All-
I have been exploring MINI 2 for over a year, but this is my first post.. I purchased my MINI last July and I have some questions and I figured this would be the place to get some answers.. Any advice is appreciated...
Since I purchased my MINI last year, I have noticed infrequently that the boot light keeps coming on- eventhough I know the boot is closed. I thought that maybe the sensor was dirty, but as the summer has progressed, the light just seems to be on all the time, especially when going up hill, but then will magically turn itself off.. I have also noticed recently a grease stain on the bottom of the boot cover (on the outside).. there are 2 machined holes on the inside where the grease seems to be coming from.. Is this normal or is my MINI falling apart on me??

thanks-
Cate

I have the same thing sometimes although it hasn't done it for a while, apparently it is water getting in through a gap somewhere and creating a short circuit . My boot has actually opened by itself before and it used to always open when I turned my headlights off.

The boot warning light thingy is caused by a faulty sensor which I believe needs adjusting or replacing. Get it done under warranty - I had the same problem and all is ok now.

That's not a very technical answer but it may help.

The grease you are noticing is the kosmoline(I realize that I probably misspelled it) that is used to protect the car during it's cruise across the Atlantic. It is supposed to be cleaned off when the cars are unloaded, but does have a tendency to continue to leak out of some holes and seams even after being cleaned. Check with you dealer to see what they recommend to clean it off.

BTW: Welcome to MINI ownership!
