United-Kingdom Hi new here!

Hi all,

I am new here and think I have already posted in the wrong thread!! I am also not so used to these websites so please excuse me if I use the wrong jargon.

I took delivery of my mini cooper conv last week and have a few problems,

Firstly the chrom line interior I paid for was not in the car - phone dealer and they have ordered in the parts but have yet to give me a date for them to be fitted.

The remote opening for the hood and boot is not programmed on my key, mentioned this to the dealer and he told me that he could send it off but it would cost me about £70, is this right?? I thought this came as standard.

There are run marks on the leather seats, dealer could not give me an explanation but said he would look at it when I take the car in.

I ordered the interior light pack because I noticed whilst specing online that there was an illuminated visor mirror (great for touching up lippie - all you girlies will understand ) I have now been told this does not come with the convertible, is this right?? when you do the whole "design you own mini" thing online, the picture shows an illuminted visor?? ps I ended up getting the chilli pack because this was included in it - plus a few other bits and pieces.!!!!!

The gear change is very nobbly/bumpy and feels quite uncomfortable whilst changing.

Lastly my car had 18 miles on the clock when I took delivery???

I would just like to point out that when I took delivery I was extremely excited and also very tired as the night before had been on a long flight.
Any response to the questions/niggles I have posted would be much appreciated, I would just like to know where I stand before I go back into the dealers.

Thanks, Neenee.

Well firsrt of all congratulations and welcome, and you have posted in the right place!, now i dont know the answer to all your questions but the illuminated mirror visor i dont think comes standard on the cabrio, because my auntie also has a cooper cabrio with the chilli pack,a nd that doesnt have it.
To me £70 is pretty expensive for something so simple,my auntie has this on her car, but i think that on later cabrios it was not standard.
The gear change may not be very good at the moment because the cars so new, and 18 miles on the clock is normally something that happens quite alot, as it happened to me on my R56 Cooper S.

Thanks for your reply Zack,

Shame about the visor though, I think the picture from online configuration is a little misleading!!

I have been looking through the pages and have seen some great piccies, wondering if I chose the wrong colour/spec . I tried to get a classic car feel with my new mini.

Pepper White
Blue Hood
Blue Gravity Leather
Wooden Steering wheel
Wood dash
Centre arm rest

Overall I am quite pleased with the aesthetics but I still love the black aswell and those stripes(vipers?) look so cool.

Congratulations neenee on your beautiful new car.

Great spec have you taken any photos yet?

As Zack said 18 miles is to be expected on the delivery, mine was 16.

The illuminated visor I cant advise sorry but Im sure Jon wont be long

If they missed the crome internals then I would use that as a negociating point for the roof programming.Key opening is not standard ...Sorry

With some sweet talking you should be able to get them to do the re mapping (computer adjustment for the roof) at least reducced ££

The seats I would deffinatly keep on at them about.

The crome should not take long to come in, give them a phone and ask how long they will be and ask about the seats again.

Good luck, but most of all enjoy your new car

Hi,

I will post some piccies as soon as I take some, it needs a clean already!!

Will definately try to make some sort of deal with regards to the key programming and having to take the car back to have the interior chrome done.

Not sure about the leather seats, the run marks are definatley from a cleaning fluid of some sort, do you think they will need to be replaced??

I just feel like such a whinger, everyone on here is so enthusiastic about their cars and I come on here with my woes

When all my niggles are sorted I am gonna take some photos and finally celebrate my new mini - not decided whether it is a boy or girl, at the mo I have blue mats but have considered buying some pink ones so will have to decide on names when the mats are in!!!

Hey Neenee,

Welcome & I'm sure you will enjoy every minute of your new Cabrio. I have an Astro Black Sidewalk S, but very nearly went for a Chilli S in PW with all the blue.

On the Aus spec cars there is no light in the visor.

Prior to ordering my car I had read on here that the key needed special programming to open the roof (the boot should be std me thinks), so I made sure that I specified that I wanted this done & the dealer didn't charge a cent. I did however, hjave to sign a waiver, as they had had some bimbo open the roof whilst they had something sitting on the roof & tried to sue the dealer - go figure!

ENJOY!!!!!

No sweet talking should be necessary. Demand it is done for free.

neenee,

Dont worry about asking for advice I had loads of niggles with mine when I picked it up.

The quarterlights did not rise up properly.
The roof was already wearing.
Wanted the roof reprogramming.

If it had not been for help and advice from the forum I would be a very unhappy MINI owner.

White Cooper Got a leak.....

Hi all,

Thank you all for your replies.

Had a bit of an eventful weekend with the mini..... My husband cleaned the drive on saturday afternoon and noticed there were some marks on the pavers which seemed to be oil???

Called the dealership who advised me to call mini emergency service as I was worried about driving the car and making the leak worse.

Mini emergency couldn't get out till at least 9.30pm so I said I would wait until the next morning.

Emergency guy arrived 11.00am sunday morning, looked under bonnet, took car for a 10 mile spin and said there wasn't an oil leak, but what appeared to be dust coming from under the exhaust system mixed with condensation not quite sure what this is, also after driving I have been able to smell burning coming from the rear drivers side, emergency guy told me this was also coming from the exhaust system and was because it is new..

Anyway not totally convinced as looking at the patches on the drive it does appear to be oil, plus yesterday it was raining so of course he couldn't see the lighter patches the car left only the darker ones, so I will be getting back onto the dealership who take ages to call me back (they got back to me within a matter of minutes when they were trying to sell me the car)!!

Bit fed-up and a little disappointed with the mini, but I still wouldn't let my husband park him on the road, one more oil spot won't hurt

Will let you know how I get on, and has anybody else had any of these problems??

Thanks, Neenee

Ps thanks Phil, will bear in mind the viper stripes.

sounds like you are having a torrid time - hope it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of MINI ownership too much.

Keep on at the dealers they should help you not hinder you.

I've had a one or other MINI for 3 1/2 years and a total of nearly 50,000 miles and I have never noticed one single drip of oil or any seep from any gasket of any kind. I've also never heard of this being a problem amongst any MINI owning friends either. Obviously it's still worth getting yours checked out, I just wanted you to know that it wasn't a known problem and that has to be good news for you

Do bear with it over a few delivery niggles as the MINI is a fabulous car and I'm sure, once these bits are sorted, you'll be chuffed to bits with it

Tigger.

PS: I have a real soft spot for the "original" new MINI (of which the Cabrio is the last remaining example still available) so lucky you! Which one is it? Did you go for the Cooper or the Cooper S? I don't think I've ever seen a totally white and blue colour scheme, I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures now

Welcome....

I've just bought a brand new 57 plate chilli red convertible but prior to that I had two lightning blue cars which I had to reject. It's a real gut wrenching feeling when you get a new car and there are niggles and things aren't right. Mine only has 1000 miles on the clock and it's booked in next Tuesday because the roof will not retract

With regards to the remote roof opening, I tried to get this on the new car and was told it can't be done anymore

Which dealership did you use? Where are you based?

Max

No quarterlights on my Cabrio! Just ordinary windoiws!
As for the "oil leak" , if you have Aircondition its possible that its from the condenser. In that case its not a leak but condensation. Perfectly normal.

Oh dear I'm sorry to hear your problems...

I had an oil leak from new on my first hardtop MINI which I was constantly told was condensation from the air con... It turned out to be a crack in the crank shaft seal! If you're not happy get them to look at it again!

White Cooper

Hello again,

I haven't got air-con so it definately can't be that!!! I still haven't managed to get the car in to be jacked up as yet, strange the dealer hasn't called me back still.........

I will give him a call again before I go out.

If it is an oil leak/crack in something, am I entitled to send the car back and insist on a new one?? Could anyone advise me on my rights?? As I already pointed out it still doesn't have the interior chrome I paid extra for?? And there is still a strong smell of burning coming from the drivers rear side

I am based in the Portsmouth area, but don't want to give the name of the dealer as yet, see how he deals with my probs first before I think of naming and shaming

Thanks again for your replies,
TTFN Neenee

Ps and I have now got the dash rattles!!!! I have read about them on the site, if I hold the bar bits on the side of the cd player it stops I am just glad my roof works I had probably keep quiet - dont want to tempt fate

If you are having continued problems on a new car - tell the dealer you're thinking about rejecting it.

Sure to put the wind up any sales manager!

Working in sales myself, if there is a problem, it's always those that are most reasonable and understanding that I want to bend over backwards to help.
