Offline | Just phoned to place an order for the new Mini convertable at my local BMW/Mini dealer and was told they want £500 deposit. As I am new to Mini's (currently drive a Lexus LS400), could anyone advise me as to whether this is normal practice? Thanks Nick |

Offline | £500 seems to be the standard, I'm afraid. I did hear some dealers (not mine) were charging £1K non-refundable - shame on you, you know who you are. Got it and I LOVE IT! |

Offline | I can't speak for a deposit on the MINI Cabriolet, but I've only had to pay £250 deposit for my current Cooper and £250 for my future Cooper S. Both my deposits were refundable - although I wouldn't dare ask for my deposit back after the Cooper S goes spec non-changeable in a few weeks time. It's up to each dealer what they want to charge. |

Offline | Scotthall Cambridge. £250 deposit now then £250 more when you start to spec it up. Dealers ask for chunky deposits to stop people ordering one at every dealer in the country hoping to get ahead in the queue. nc c/o the missuses login |

Offline | Thanks for the replies everyone - looks like £500 isn't that unusual - although I guess if I phoned around I could have reserved one for less. So, I guess I've now got a year and a bit to decide the specification - looking at the options list, I may not have enough time! Nick |

| MINI2 Newbie | Sounds like a rip to me.....Contact Mini.com and ask if there is a deposit requirement for the Cabrio. My wife is #1 on the "list" for a Cabrio Mini here in the USA (Cincinnati, OH). There is NO deposit yet. When our S was actually "on order" back in March 02, we did have to have a $1000 deposit. best David jacquesmontoya@mini2.com MAXI Electric Blue MCS /w/ White roof. ![]() Cheers /// Jacques |

Offline | We've covered above that deposits are dealer-dependant. Basically, it's up to each individual dealer to choose how they wish to handle waiting lists, deposits, build order lists. It's up to each individual would-be buyer to choose whether they wish to place an order and/or depost with any one given dealer. |
