United-Kingdom MINI Open "S" pictures in Auto Express?

Anyone got a copy yet? Post here!

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/?news/a...y.php?id=38655

"We've known for some time that a convertible version of BMW's MINI is on the way, but exclusive shots in the current issue of Auto Express magazine are the first proof that a supercharged S model will also be available.

The giveaway is an air intake on the bonnet, which provides cool air for a blown 1.6-litre engine. With similar performance to that of a standard Cooper S version, the 163bhp cabriolet - which is likely to be badged Open - will be capable of 0-60mph in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 135mph.

Our photographer caught the car with its roof up and down, giving the most detailed look yet at the trendy four-seater in its coolest bodystyle. Roll-over protection is provided by a pair of hoops above the rear seats. While the devices look untidy in these pictures, additional trim and a chrome finish will make them a styling feature rather than an ugly necessity. There may also be a cover to hide the soft-top when it's folded down. Having a canvas hood means the hatchback of the three-door has been ditched in favour of a boot that opens in the same way as that of the classic Mini. So engineers had to come up with a system that works like the bottom half of a split tailgate, and the ungainly external hinges are clearly visible in our picture on the left.

Set to debut at January's Detroit Motor Show, the supercharged Open will be sold alongside normally aspirated Cooper and One versions, which will offer more insurance-friendly power outputs. Designed to rival the likes of the Citroen C3 Pluriel and VW Beetle Cabrio, the Open will be priced at £2,000 more than an equivalent hatchback MINI. That means buyers can expect to pay £16,600 for the S version." Chris Thorp Auto Express 2003
