Paul, from the pictures it looks like once its in position the lower part of the deflector can be split/folded in half .

It folds in half when in storage, didn't work out if/how you could do that while it was fitted.

errr hang on a sec - I'd thought the wind deflector was something you could just add at any time - you're saying that it is a factory installed thing (...the side panels are not just drilled, they're different units)? Ergo order it at spec time or pay even more silly money for retro? Bugger...

I've been told it's something you can only order at the time you place your order, but I cant say more than that. If you want it, or even might want it, it's probably wisest to order with the car anyway as you can guarantee it will be cheaper that way.

Because i was trying to keep down the costs, i did not speck the w/d but when i quite easily got my nice salesman to give me £30 towards any extra it might cost as a after market, i very quickly came to the conclusion to order it NOW. imho.

TOP OFF AT LAST. (Everybody be cool, you, be cool.)

Only thing is, it looks like it's only the flat piece that folds...

Cheers for the pics Paul.

But it looks so "added on"!. Surely some after marketer will come up with a better looking and cheaper one? On the Z3 the BMW one was like MINI one but after market you could get a clear perspex jobby that fitted between the roll bars.

Yes of course an aftermarket deflector may come along and they may even have done wind tunnel tests so it actually works but are you really prepared to gamble. IMHO the wind deflector is one of the few essential options and is not as outrageously expensive as other options.

You are so right. Why spoil a £16ish car for the sake of £160. Even if I never use it will be useful for any future owner.

You have convinced me. I've added it to my spec list!

Good on ya "b3 gmk". I was going to get the wind deflector 2/3 month or so after collecting the car as I had allready gone OTT on the extra's. However, decided to add the wind deflector on the last minute(3 weeks ago) as I didnt facy risking an aftermarket wind deflector or have a retro fit deflector. Im sure MINI have done there homework(wind tunnels etc) and it will be an essential item.
Rentagas is right, why chance it.

I used to have a 3 series convertible and the wind deflector in that just used to clip in similar to the pics of the mini one. All 3 series came with the side panels ready to take the wind deflector. Is this not the case with the mini? I have not ordered the wind deflector but can get it put on the order if it is going to be a problem later on.

MCS conv on order, DS/Black leather, Chilli pack, chrome mirrors, heated seats, chrome interior, HK
Arriving 10/9 - Hopefully!!

I've been told that now that my mini has gone the production line I can't add anything now, but I really wish I had thought of the wind deflector. Does anyone know if this is something that is included right at the end of the production as I am going to ask anyway to see if I can get it included.

Liz, I'm afraid once the car has gone into production its then to late to alter the spec.

I hope you are correct but all the evidence so far would suggest that you are wrong!
