Question Problems with alarm in heavy rain?

A number of times now, my alarm has gone off in heavy rain with the hood up, standing on the drive.
I took it back to the dealers but the sensitivity isn't adjustable.
No problems with the alarm when the hood is down strangley, works really well and never had a flasy yet.
Dealer says they would need to keep it a day or two and strip out the alarm to test each part of it, so I'm not anxious to do that yet.

Just wondering whether anyone else is having issues in rain with the hood up.

I thought this was in the manual, you can "double click" when arming the alarm to turn off the interior sensor.

Well, yes you can double click to turn off the interior sensor, but even with the interior sensor on the alarm should not be set off by rain. I too am having problems and at 4am it isn't funny! Been to Blue Bell in Wilmslow and they have 3 convertibles with reported problems, including mine. As yet they do not have a fix, but BMW are aware of the problem.

I also, have been woken in the middle of the night after the alarm started in the rain. My dealer says they have never heard of this problem. Going in on the 28th july.

My dealer said that although they could not adjust the sensitivity they would take readings so they can send the info back to the factory. They may then be able to get an update for it.

So I guess anyone that has this problem should mention it to the dealer then they can go back to the factory.

After the 1st heavy rain since I collected my MCSC my alarm decided to go off 4 times last night. Has anyone had a fix from the dealer yet or are the boffins still looking into it.

My alarm seems to go off at around 3am or 4am even when in the garage (setting it without the internal sensor solves this). Anyone had a response yet on this?

MCC Astro Black, collected 21 July , all is well (alarm has not false alarmed since 15 December 2004!)

I've also noted mine going off for no reason - either in the rain or just a bit of wind.

I'll mention it next time I'm at the dealer.

I believe that if rain is 'heavy' enough - all mini convertible alarms will go off - and it needs a factory fix. I'm not rushing back to the dealer to let them strip car down to investigate - I'd rather wait for the recall notice that I'm sure will eventually be released.

As for pressing alarm button twice, yes you can , and yes it will sort the problem out, BUT
what's the point of fitting an alarm facility that you can't use - I expect the car is not as secure when the interior motion detector is disabled, also, in the UK, I'm not always sure if it's going to rain whenever I lock the car ! Perhaps I need to move to LA or some other place without rain storms!

Dealer Fix - I think

When I was on holiday, Mill Mini kept my car for the week.
They claim to have fixed it becuase in heavy rain, there was an occassional drop of water leaking in, setting off the alarm.

Must admit, I hadn't noticed this at all, but whatever they have done seems to have fixed the problem, although we haven't had that much rain in the past week or two.

In fact the weather is absolutely fab for driving, did Gloucester and back in the sunshine last Friday, a total of 500 miles all with the top down!

Dark Silver

collected my dark grey cooper s convett last Thursday - fantastic weather until Friday when it chucked down with rain - alarm kept going off during the day and as I park in our second office - two minutes walk from where i work my colleagues were less than impressed having to hear my car alarm five times running, i was less than impressed having 50 emails and phone calls telling me my alarm was going off but i was really chunked off having been woken four times in the night after 2 am with the alarm going off outside my house. Less hope its not a wet winter did leave a ed off message on the mini dealer's answer machine to get it out of my system , but not impressed...........

Wondered, if anyone had any updates on this?

I too have been having problems, again only when the hood is up and the interior sensors are activated. But, in my case it has not happened specifically when it is raining nor during the day (done it now). Only goes off when I'm sound asleep pumping ZZZZZ's

I believe that the sensors are microwave based and so far I have found 4. One behind each of the door cards and one in the LH & RH rear panels. Although BMW say that it is not adjustable it must be in some basic sense as it obviously has different coverage patterns for hood up or down.

http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachmen...chmentid=50759

Next time I'm behind the panels I'll take a closer look but I did open the case and found a circuit board with a big shielding can around it.

Spoke to BMW/Mini and they confirmed the issue also affects the Z4.
They are working on a fix but have been for a while.
Their advice in the meantime (which is wholly unaccepable) is go out in the pouring rain and turn off the internal sensors.

HI ALL, my alarm decided to go off in slight drizzle, medium rain and no rain especially at night but when i;m armed and ready during torrential rain doesn't go off. When i took it back to the dealers they checked and their reply was yes the alarm is faulty and i have to bring it back within a months time as they were ordering a part. They also said my boot wasn;t aligned properly??? so whether this affects the alarm no idea as collected car and had to rush back off. will update you in months time at the mo I'm just deactivating the alarm.
