Driving Lamps?

Has anyone got pics of their mini convertible with the little driving lamps which you can have added to the front of your minis for £145s? I can't decide whether I need them or not!

The driving lamps alone are £145 then you have to add labour costs for fitting.

I havent actually ordered my mini convertible yet, I'm going to do it in the next week or so. If I order them as one of my options, I take it you don't have to pay the extra money for fitting then?

I'm afraid to say you do.

My own thoughts are your giving them alot of your hard earn't money to buy the car from them and anything extra you wanted fitting would be free......but sadly its not.

You can fit them yourself, but its not easy and you still need to visit the dealer to get them activated and they wont do that for free either......I think the charge is between £50 to £90 just for that so you might as well let the dealer fit them in the first place.

Hi Karly,
Depends where you live. If you buy the OEM BMW lights from the US they do not need to be coded by the dealer so you can fit them yourself without recourse to them...it also gives you the option of having the driving lights on or off with the main beam. The UK ones need dealer coding. Re the install - not impossible, but certainly time consuming and if you follow the instructions you need quite a few specialised tools (to remove trim, install threaded rivets, etc.). I managed ok and I'm no mechanic/electrician, but certainly a fidly job!
Still saying all of this I'm glad I did them myself because you know there were no shortcuts and i got to learn about taking the car to bit (the right way) via the FAQ part of MINI2.com
Good luck, if you need any tips/advice with the install let me know.
BYW there are sets of lights on ebay from a US mini dealer for ~$280 US.

Unfortunately I am in the UK What about other items which need fitting? I also am going to put white bonnet stripes on my list to give to the deal when I order my Mini, will they want extra to put those on as well?

Most of these 'other' items are dealer fit options too (ie. roof decals, etc.) that are installed after the car has been delivered. The bonnet stripes are again on ebay ($10 u.s.) and a number of the sponsers on this website (cooper flags is one) sell them fairly cheaply. My dealer wanted $140 for two stripes plus the same again to install. There are lots of custom shops out there which will do just as good a job (if you don't want to risk sell install) and at a fraction of the BMW price.

Karly,if you spec bonnet stripes with your order then they will be factory fit so no extra fitting charge.

dinger.

Yikes, for some unknown reason it never occurred to me that I'd be charged labour on dealer fit accessories. Is there a standard price/hourly rate or fixed cost per item? I'm getting driving lamps and illuminated door sill strips fitted at the dealer and was quite happy that I'd finally managed to spec my car under £25k but methinks if they're charging labour then it might go over that...

I would of thought if your MINI is costing you just under £25k then I would expect any dealer supplied extras to be fitted for free with in reason.
