Offline | Mcsc Jcw Just got my car back. Very quick, supercharger seems to whine louder, at lower revs. Exhaust throbs more. Pics later. ![]() |

Offline | OK so you've spent over 20K on your MCSC, somebody offers you 40 more horses for another 3.5K+. Should you go for it (assuming your money:sense ratio is compatibly unbalanced). Well the problem I have with the MCSC is it can be tricky to get the power down particularly in the wet. This does not seem to get any worse in the JCW because the wheel spin (even with DSC) occurs on initial acceleration. This initial problem seems worse on the convertible than in the hatch presumably because the chassis vibrates more. The essential question then is assuming you have more power does this come on evenly, predictably, within an acceptable rev range and without unpleasant noise. Well the answer is yes the JCW delivers buckets of power, seamlessly with a much louder and higher pitched supercharger whine- but it is by no means unpleasant. The exhaust note is more burbling with probaby less lift of popping. With the top down or up the sound is pleasant. Oh and it goes very, very fast. The question of whether the package is worth the 25k plus is more difficult. Do you want a 318i?.........Quite. A decently specced A4 cabrio, quattro 3.0 will cost over 35k. I think it represents value for money because it gives R32 performance with far more excitement (for the same money) with a soft top and am pleased with the result. My next choice would have been an S4 cabrio and instead for the same moneyI have a very quick cabrio and a fast Golf (which debadged I can park anywhere and it will be ignored). The MCSC JCW feels like it was designed to be this way and the stock car has been detuned -drive one and see if you agree ![]() |

Offline | He's posted some on the performance and tuning forum - 210bhp JCW thread. Looks wicked and I am pretty jealous. Wonder what the insurance is like on a MCSC JCW???? Ouch. |

Offline | insurance £95 more (about£700)-which i thought was quite good considering they wanted £135 more for side skirts (which I thought wasn't worth it) The JCW pack comes up as an option on the insurance company's computer so it didn't need to go to the underwriters-an advantage the JCW kit has over other power modifications. ![]() |

Offline | I use Direct Line I made them confirm that they would replace all my options in the event of an insured event-which is often the case-and yes they wanted to charge an extra £135 for side skirts! The MCSC is by no means an economical car but there doesn't seem to be a massive change in petrol consumption. The hatchback apparently is little different between the S and JCW S. However the noise above 4500 rpm is fairly intoxicating and the temptation to play may well adversely affect my petrol consumption-so far it hasn't. I suppose if you do 25,000 miles a year then it would be significant but it would not be for me. Sorry about no more pics-I've been busy earning the money to pay for it! |

Offline | My dealer said wait until I had done @6000 miles before getting a JCW kit put on, any comments? My friends just picked up a 325i conv and there is no room in the back of that so i'm well justified in pouring a few more grand in the mini pit. |
