Offline | Aftermarket bike racks I'm taking delivery of my MCSC at the beginning of February. Since I mountain bike, I'm considering getting the bike rack. However, my dealer tells me that parts+installation will be $475. My local bike shop sells quality racks for $60-$120 that are easily removable. However, the MCSC is too new for them to know for sure whether or not the racks will fit, but they have several that fit 2004 Coopers. Are there other Convertible owners that have experience with aftermarket bike racks? Were you able to find one that fits? |

Offline | Is the dealer quoting one that uses a small hitch receiver under the bumper? If so, I can understand the cost for that plus a BMW priced rack to go in it. You can have one of those installed by a number of places (Pep Boys etc) for less. You won't get one for $60, but I don't really see any other types working on the MCSC. Not much of a trunk (boot) lid to rest on, let alone be horizontal. Good luck. I would get the hitch receiver kind. ![]() |

Offline | I was quoted $850 around here for the MiniFini Sport Link and Bike Rack, including installation (on a regular MINI Cooper). At that time, however, they hadn't done any yet and were guessing on the labor. My wife's car is the designated bike carrier for now (VW Cabrio with PeaShooter rack from Bird Automotive ). |

Offline | cristo, do the bikes wobble around when driving? Or is the rack pretty secure? I would think that having 2 mounting points would stabalize it. Am I right? Dain |

Offline | the peashooter rack on the VW Cabrio is a little springy and bouncy, but haven't had any problems with it on short or long drives with 2 bikes. I'm not sure I'd feel good about 3 bikes on it, although it's supposed to work. There's a u-tube that bolts to the bumper steel at 2 points and also bolts at the gas tank bracket, then the rack slides into the two ends of the U. |
