Offline | Really stupid convertable question Sorry for asking such a stupid question but I have never owned or even been in the inside of a convertable. Is there an exterior and interior fabric to a convertable roof? The reason I want to know is what happens if you order a colored roof for the convertable? If you order a blue or green roof is it blue or green inside? Thanks for the help! Erik |

Offline | There are no stupid questions on MINI2 I have owned many convertibles including MGs, BMWs, Dodges, VWs, and now a MINI. There are two basic types of top materials, vinyl and cloth. MINI is using a cloth fabric similar to, if not identical, to the material used in the BMW line. It is probably manufactured by Haartz in Germany. It is a high quality fabric that will give years of excellent performance if maintained correctly. This means regular cleanings and application of a protectant to keep it weather proofed. Some cabrio, AKA convertible tops, are multi-layer, i.e, they might be insulated and have a headliner that can be a different or the same color as the outside layer. In the case of my MINI the interior is the same as the exterior, black. I'm not sure if this is true with the blue and green tops. Hope this helps. I am sure other cabrio owners will chime in. We are supposed to get a warm day next week and I plan to treat my top as it is not beading water as well as I think it should. IMO the key to keeping a convertible top in good shape is regular cleaning, at least once a year, followed by application of a good protectant. Raggtop and 303 are the most popular brands. If you are thinking about a cabrio, the MINI is a good choice. There are less costly options out there but you won't find a car that is more fun to drive and has all the features of a MINI at a price under $30K. |

Offline | I have a blue top and the inside is black, so there must have been a change in suppliers since the charcoal color interior. I live in an area where we get some snow and cold weather and was concerned about the insulation factor of the material. While it is slightly noisier than the hardtop model, it is not objectionable and the interior is nice and warm on a cold night. |
