Does this make any sense?

Well my fiance and I test drove a cooper convertible this weekend, I'm impressed with the car it rides and has decent pickup for a little car I was kinda suprised at the looks you get in that car too some people were in awe. The saleswoman was very nice and didnt seem to try and BS us except for one thing see if this makes any sense at all to anyone. My fiance isnt a race car driver and she isnt going to SCCA this car but the saleswoman is trying to sell her on performace tires even though she said she not buying the car the car unless it has all season tires they're trying to tell us to come back in the winter and BUY winter tires from them. Why cant they swap out the performance tires with all season tires which are usually cheaper anyway? She tried giving us some lame excuse that the wheels the performance tires come on are different and you cant get all season tires on them. I never heard such a crock of **** in my life they make all season tires in any size you want basically.

I know someone's response is going to be performance tires are fine in the winter just get them..save your typing I dont want to hear that I've been driving for a enough years to know driving in the snow with performance tires sucks. I attempted it with my car Z rated tires in the snow was awful.

its true. when you get the sports package (16 inch wheels) on the MINI MC it only comes with performace tires. unless your dealer is kind enogh to take the hit and put on other tires for you at their expense thats what you get. same thing happened to me. so i drove through a snowy cold cleveland winter with them and honestly had no problems. your dealer is not lying.

If I wanted to order a Mini with all season tyres with my dealer, he'd probably try to talk me out of it as well, but if I really wanted it, he would swap the tyres for me, that's for sure (if you can't order one with all season tyres)

I think your dealer's behaviour doesn't make sense. You're about to buy an expensive car, they can do you some favour. At least he must swap them for you, and then you can try to sell the performance tyres here, I'm sure you'll find someone (if you lived in Switzerland here, I'd buy them from you, I need new ones soon )

still waiting.. for a better time

She doesnt want the sport package she would be getting a mini w/o the sports package. We arent ordering the car b/c its a 4 month wait so she's trying to locate us one under 25k that we can buy right off the lot, I didnt see a single cooper convert under 25k that had the sports package but some of the 15" wheels do come with performance tires I dont see the big deal to swap those with all season.

The MC convertible comes standard with 15" R93 (5-spoke Rocket) wheels and performance tires (order code 2CL) ... 15" R81 (7-hole) wheels and all-season tires (order code Z7H) are a no-cost option.

The R81 wheel and tire package is standard on the MC hardtop. Perhaps your dealer can swap wheel and tire packages with a hardtop on the lot or has a set of someone exchanged for accessory wheels at time of purchase.

You could always put all-season tires on the wheels yourself

Different Wheels also mean different tires

I ordered my MCSC in October with a February delivery. I have it loaded out with the whole menu including the sport package but also wanted all season tires. I found that if I passed on the new bullet wheels and took the optional 17 inch S light rims (no extra charge) I got the all season tires. This is noted in the catalog and on the web site. With the S and no sport package you can switch the standard wheels to the V spoke type and get the all season tires.

Luck,

Steve

Thats what I'm hoping for the all season should be a simple swap I shouldnt have to pay 25k for a car then go out and spend another $500+ for new tires on a new car. I still dont understand why a base cooper comes with performance tires its 115HP theres absolutely no need for performance tires on that car unless its has the sport package

7 holes on the base

I just double checked the Mini USA site and on the base convertible you can switch to the 7 hole wheels for no charge and get the all season tires.

My guess is that on the assembly line they already have the wheel and tire packages assembled so they only offer certain wheels with certain tires. Otherwise they would eventually have ones going out with two all season tires and two performance tires. Pretty easy to spot check them by wheel types but takes much more attention to detail to check the types of tires.

From a sales point of view I know the performance tires help the car feel better on the street until you hit actual weather so putting performance tires on the car initially is as much a marketing ploy as it is optimizing the car.
