Offline | Owners of MCSC... have you spent any time in a MCC? My MCSC is at the dealer getting the JCW upgrade. They gave me a MCC for a loaner. I don't want to step on any toes, or offend any MCC owners, but it really feels like a toy version of the MCSC. The handling is still there, otherwise it feels like an electric car. Maybe my JCW kit will make the MCSC feel the same way. I was just very suprised at the difference. |

Offline | I traded my MINI Cooper for a MCSC and there is a difference in overall performance. Congratulations on your uprgrade. I was just wondering, for that price of the MCSC w/ JCW kit-- did you think about getting a different car? It's almost the same price as a BMW Z4. |

Offline | Hi Wren. I'm waiting for my MCSC w/JCW to arrive in a few weeks. I'm still trying to rationalize another car in the same price range but it's nearly impossible. What other car is so unique, fun to drive, handles like a formula car and gets great mileage and you can get a sun tan in? I know...there are some options but in my opinion the Mini Cab w/JCW will not be a common car therefore worth the price of admission to the club. BTW, I tried to find a used M3 or 993 Porsche in that price range but, not! I am sure it's going to be a great car ![]() |

Offline | Nope never even considered the BMW because I wanted 4 seats...I have 6 and 4 year old boys and they have a blast in back. once you have the MCSC, you realize how exclusive it is. you see the BMW Z4 everywhere and even in bigger cities (chicago, tampa) that I've been recently, i haven't seen another MCSC. anyway, i'm going back to chicago tomorrow to pickup my car. I'll let you know how it is. I still can't get over how sluggish the MCC feels. Last edited by MadisonMini : Apr 15th, 2005 at 05:25 PM. |

Offline | Fair enough:-) I read from auto reviews that the MCC's performance is compromised because of the cabrio's heavier chassis. After reading other posts above, I'm now considering upgrading to a JCW. ![]() |

Offline | wish I could afford an MCSC either with or without the JCW - but I'm happy with Tango and I spent the money on making him unique rather than having a standard MCS! MINI One Convertible Hot Orange, Full Aero Kit, Heated Sports Seats, X-Lites, etc |

Offline | I actually prefer my MCC over the S version. I had both available to me and found it hard to justify the extra $3000 for the bigger motor. Besides, now I don't feel the need to race around everywhere as I did in my stage 3 VW GTI . I will, however, look seriously at the turbo "S" when it arrives. Just my 2 cents ![]() |

Offline | I've always been fascinated with the idea of a supercharged car, and knowing from previous experience that more power is always good (especially when there's no big penalty for additional mass), I had to go with the Cooper S. Also, I prefer the styling and option choices. _Dave_ PS: speaking of the extra mass penalty, I'm thinking specifically of situations such as a VW Jetta: the turbo 4 cylinder engine version is so much nicer than the 6 cyl, even though the six has substantially more power. The 4 cyl has much quicker steering and handling! With the MINI, there's hardly any additional mass for the supercharger, etc. Wotta bargain! Last edited by am0eba : Apr 16th, 2005 at 03:15 PM. Offline | Gotta add my 0.02 here....I have the MCSC and absolutely LOVE it! When I test drove the MC vs. MCS there was, to me, a huge difference in the "zip" of the car. I do almost 95% freeway miles in CA and the added boost of that aupercharger really comes in handy when I need to pass, or scoot out of the way of some crazy monster SUV barrelling down the road... |

Offline | Pulley Wren: You may also want to look into a pulley modification. Works is nice but does come with a huge dealer markup. The Supercharger was definitely worth the money to me, but everyones needs/desires seem to be met by all the choices Mini gives people. Mike I've spent more money than I can count on my Wild Woman, Fast Cars and Great Music; all the rest I've wasted! Offline | Hi all - I have an intersesting perspective on the differences between the MCC and MCSC. My MCSC was late in getting delviered to me so the dealer gave me a MCC loaner for a few days. The car is fun to drive but I would describe it as more of a touring car. The S is quick and is more sporty - It's hard to drive the MCSC slow - it wants to get up and go. My MCSC is back at the dealer today getting a few accesories added - and they gave me the same loaner - a MCC. No question - the S is way superior and totally worth the money ![]() |

Offline | Well, this has been a good thread. Now that I have my JCW MCSC, it will probably be hard to drive a "regular" MCSC again...kind of like comparing the MCSC to the MCC. Been very happy with the JCW so far, wish I could give everyone a drive ![]() |

Offline | I certainly would not call the the S "way superior". The only difference between the cars lie in the engine/transmission and a few body pcs (it was difficult for us to justify the extra $4K just to go faster). Everything else is the same including the way the car handles. The MCC certainly could have used at least a small boost in power to help with the added weight, but IMO, is just as much fun to drive. Besides, if speed was the motivating factor in our purchase decision, We probably would have chosen something else. Even the Cooper S has limitations in what you can do with it. Spending 5K+ to get 210hp seems a little crazy to me. Put that same 5K into an R32 or STi and you will realize signifiganty larger gains. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love our Cooper (even in all its non-Sness!), just want people who are considering a convertible Cooper purchase to know the fun factor is still very high in the BASE version. ![]() |

Offline | I picked up my JCW Cab. last weekend and after one week the car is GREAT! I have kept it under 4500rpm so I can't wait to let it rip. With the top down, blasts at 90mph on the highway have been fun and 60mph corners and well, AMAZING! I've put about 550 miles on it. I love the power so far and in my opinion the JCW is worth the piece of mind and rarity among MINI's. Warranty and reliability is worth the price of admission not to mention the nuts it gives the car. The only thing I've found that needs to be improved is the suspension as it is too soft. I hope to add a set of coilovers for improved handling and adjustability that should give some stiffness in the cornering. So far the car has impressed and I have gotten many complements on it. The performance is great for what the car is. There are faster cars but the fun factor (cornering fast & flat) is truly what the car is about. JCW cars I think add a unique dose of power and originality as what Cooper Works intended for them to be. A hot-rodded pocket rocket to hit the curves with. I wanted a car that not many have,is european and it's owners are serious car enthusiasts. The car is all I expected and more. Count me in as a JCW MINI guy! MOTOR ON! |

Offline | Have to say that if I was looking for performance per pound I would have kept my Civic Type R, having drove the MCSC I would say yes it is fun, but it just lacked the wow factor of my Type R. For that reason alone I opted for the MCC as I felt £20,000 for a step down in performance was not worth it. Instead I plan a few years of open top cruising ![]() |
