Should I accept a replacement roof?????

I put my MCSC in to the dealership , to have some rattles looked at and also mentioned that a couple of time the roof hasn't latched properly at the front.

I recived a phone call sometime later, saying that the car needs a complete new roof

Should I accept this? It worries me that a car that is only 6 months old, should need such radical repair.

Has anyone had it done and if so does the car rattle (more) etc afterwards.

I have just had my roof replaced and the rattles are as loud and bad as ever. My rattles are from the windows though. The roof was replaced because of wearing.

TOP OFF AT LAST. (Everybody be cool, you, be cool.)

I have just had mine replaced, got it back last Tuesday. I believe you have to give them an opportunity to replace it and hope it cures the fault. Mine was only 6 weeks old when it had signs of wear.
I have not noticed any rattles and or any worse noises. The dealer did a great job and I even got a copy of the work schedule in the post today which listed all of the parts that were fitted - I was very impressed!! Just hope that it is now sorted.

i cant see any down side to letting them replace it. what is your reservation against it? i understant that it shouldnt need a new roof, but if it does and they will do it, id say why not.

when you say your roof hasn't latched properly at the front... do you mean that the jobbies miss the hole they're meant to go in...?

The passenger side latch on my convert stopped working and the fix, as I was told, is to replace the sunroof portion of the roof frame. From what I can see, this contains all the latch mechanisms. I haven't had the repair done yet, as we were waiting for parts, and now the roof started working on it's own. I am hesitatant to have the repair done, as it won't be the "factory" installed, and I worry abou the roof suddenly sprining a leak or something. I have an appointment in 2 weeks, before which I a, gonna call the dealership to let them know the roof is working again to see how they want to proceed.

RIP Boo

there are two different types of roof replacement, those for roof wear generally just have the canopy replaced and a fix applied to the mechanism, and then there is a full replacment for failure of operation and serious rattles

Sometimes rattles can be worked out by adjusting the existing roof arms, but more than often the dealer resorts to a complete change over as this will then also give the latest version of the roof.

I'd let them have a go at replacing it, if it still rattles or doesn't close then keep on pushing for them to resolve or even for you to be able to hand the car back, which I am sure neither you or the dealer wants to do

reminds me, still need to get mine booked in for roof wear replacment, but there is too much sun to let her go in the shop for a long period of time

The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive?

But haven't people reported that the new roof:

Still Wears
Sits higher when retracted increasing wind noise?

This is putting me off a bit though I have to say my roof wear is no worse, the rattles don't bother me and the scratches on my rear windows are no worse.

Fair enough , I will lets them have ago, the car itself is great. If I didn't think it was so good, I would have left it at the dealer to sell.

The thing I can't understand is why there are so many problems with the Mini roof, BMW have been making roofs for years. Your would have thought they would know how to do it by now!!!!!!!

Rakey - your car was new in Jan 05 and a few months later you need a replacement roof due to wear? And the summer hasn't even started yet.

Is there any durability in these cars? What will they be like at five YEARS old?

actually picked her up start of Feb

I'm not bothered to be honest, I get so much enjoyment out of her, and to be fair the top is down most the time, then up when I leave her for more than 10 minutes parked, then down. As long as its dry the roof is down, infact ok, even sometimes in the rain its down

Please see my lastest post in "Roof wear still... " before you waste your time getting a new roof. It didn't work for me or Rich C as his is wearing too!
