| Powered by VPower | Am I Nuts? - Only driver with the roof down this AM I drive a Cooper Convertible to comute to work. Love driving the car. The roads were wet this morning (rained last night) Sun was shining so decided to drive with the roof down. I saw 10 Convertibles(2 Saabs, 2 ford Ka's,3 Mercs, 1 Porche, 1 Renault Megane,1 volvo)this morning and NON HAD THE ROOF DOWN. . Got a few frowns from a few driver(even one from a mini driver-pathetic ). Am I Nuts? Should I conform to the Norm? How I see it is, I bought the car for my pleasure, and no one elses. If I want to drive with the roof down, its for my benefit(im not a poser). Paid the extra for an open top so I use it and the most important thing is I love the thrill of open top driving, the RUSH Im sure you all know what I mean. So long as I wrapped up and got my wooley hat on and its dry it doesnt matter(had Bells Paulsy last year, face was paralysed/sever headaches, better now but the cold still efect my head- Thats why I wear a hat all the time outdoors/in car(All at Bruntingthorpe on 22/01/05 would have seen I didn't take my hat off all day-(Me and the Mrs were the only one's with the Cooper Convertible,remember?)2 days ago, same thing, this time in the afternoon, Sun shining and everyone had there roof's up EXCEPT another MINI Convertible driver Am I Nuts? Should I be bothered? Does anyone else have there roof down as soon as the Sun comes out whatever the temperature?? |

Offline | OK:- Heated seat-ON A/C on manual/forward, full on, "HI" Wind deflector up. Windows up Shades optional Means you can go out in sub zero temps in normal clothes and no hat I have had other convertible drivers come up beside me with their roofs up feigning shivering In nose to tail traffic I tend to put the roof up unless it's warm. The time to put up and down the roof is within traffic light timing and I have only been caught out once So unless you're very self conscious -go for it! ![]() |

Offline | As long as you can bear it, open it. That's the point of a soft top is it not? Personally I like getting it off at night, it's a lot of fun out in the open under the light of the moon. ![]() |

Offline | Go Topless! I currently don't have a Mini but have been looking. In Feb. I had a chance to test drive a MCSC and you bet the top was down. 25 Degrees F, heater on full blast and it was great! A lot of people were looking at me strange which made it even better. ![]() |

Offline | Regardless of the weather, some people just refuse to put the tops down on their cars period. It's a mystery to me why they buy convertibles at all. Yesterday I went driving with the top down (as it had been raining all week until then). A perfect top-down day. Loaded up the wife and kids and went motoring al fresco. Did I see a single other convertible driver with the top down? No. Pathetic. |

Offline | Absolutely!.......................... It doesn't matter who you are. What you've got. Whatever.... Do whatever you have to do.................... Just put the flipping roof down, enjoy yourself, soak in the rays, the mini is cool in a way that Boxster, SLK and Z4 drivers can only dream about. The mini convertible is a fun car that can cost anything from 14k to 30k and it doesn't say "look at my wad" it says "aint I cool". Enjoy ![]() |

Offline | Night time is my favorite time to drive top down as well. Though I love convertibles and always drive top down in my MINI, I am not a big fan of being out in the direct sun on warm days especially if it is city driving with all the stops. I am happiest just after sunset when the moon and stars are coming out, the city lights are coming on, and the heated seats are keeping me nice and toasty. It is heaven on the highway. I am always amazed at how few people actually use their convertibles with the top down. I think there ought to be a law against it. By the way, yesterday was my 8th wedding anniversary. What did my wife and I do to celebrate? We went for a nice long drive in the MINI, top down of course. |

| MINI2 Master | Our car rolls off the good ship Toledo on Saturday, and I can't wait to take delivery and get that top down. I know how cold those April mornings can be in the UK, after all, I lived there for 40 years !! I laso know, my top would have been down too! Here in Brisbane, my wife is going to need a damn good excuse to have the top up.Trouble is when the temperature drops below 25degC (and I ain't kidding), she thinks its freezing. I cant wait to take her back to England for a proper Christmas!! all the best Darrell |

Offline | A few days ago I drove my MCSc up into the hills near my home. I could see some big clouds up there but I went top down anyway. Sure enough it started raining real hard but I just drove through it because I could see that a little farther it was clearing. Just a bit of water got onto the back seat. As I continued on I looked at the gas gauge. Oops!! Oh well, back through the rain I went. A little rain never hurt nobody. |

Offline | The other night I drove down the peninsula about 5 o'clock in the afternoon, from SF to San Jose. The late afternoon sun was beginning to hang out over the ocean, above the big green hills to the west, and it was just beautiful! I had on a sweater, jacket, gloves and seat heaters on, and it was fabulous (hey, it may be California, but it's Northern California, and it can get chilly!) I saw two Porsche Boxsters, a BMW convertible and another one I can't recall what make -and only myself and one of the Boxster drivers had the top down!! The others probably missed the big hawk soaring gracefully overhead, but I didn't.... It is a fine, fine thing, to have the top down and the wind and sky as the only roof. But I plan to get a wind deflector, don't want to get Bell's Palsy - then no one would see the big smile on my face while I am driving my car! |
