When is hot to hot?

When do you consider it to hot to have the top down? Today is was only 80 but the sun was blazing and my back was starting to get wet and stick against the seat. Now grant it you can turn on the AC, but to me that seems like a nice waste.

When you can feel your brain baking, that's prolly too hot. Actually, I don't think the heat is the issue, but rather the damaging UV rays. Skin cancer is no fun, so if it hurts, put that top up!

Here in Sydney it's gets pretty hot in the summer, I've had the top down with the temp reading up above 35C.

I just keep a couple of hats and a bottle of sun block handy, the AC goes on when I'm sat in traffic.

It has not been hot here in Los Angeles yet. I am enjoying motoring with the top down BUT I do take precautions. I always wear my 30 SPF sunblock, pair of sunglasses and a cap/hat to protect my face from the Sun. Remember the rays of the Sun is most intense between 11:30 to about 2:30 P.M. I have the auto climate control on everytime as well, set at 68 to 70 degrees. Happy Motoring!

Do you have cloth seats? That's what I specced for my MCSC. I figured cloth seating surfaces will raise the temperature limit of "comfortable" topless motoring. My Miata has black cloth = cool and comfortable. My Passat had black leather = hot and sticky. Makes a big difference.

It's a dry heat

I live in Colorado where we have as many sunny days but the temperature is generally lower - but dry - which makes a big difference in the heat and the cold. This is my rule of thumb.

45 - 55 long sleeve, heat = ON, seat warmers = HIGH
55 - 65 heat = ON, seat warmers = LOW
65 - 75 seat warmers = LOW
75 - 85 puuuuuuuuurfect (check sunscreen)
85 - 92 It's getting hot

Top down

Coldest = 32 between Flagstaff and Phoenix
Hottest = 92 I-15 near Scripps Ranch (I decided that if it's over 92 the top goes up)
Best = 82 cruising the strip in Las Vegas

In the south of Spain in summer we found it far too hot in the afternoons on long, very open roads and often had to put the top up, even with hats, sunblock, and lots of water on board!

5-6 degrees C is about the limit with indoor clothes on (as it was this am). -Wind deflector up, windows up, a/c on "hi", 100mph. Not many other cars with the roof down......
It has never been too hot in the UK since last July-I'll let you know if/when it is!

Being in Utah with a similar climate to yours, I'll have to print a copy of your chart and tape it to the inside of my windshield, heh.

Know what you mean - I am beginning to wish I had brought an MCS instead of my kitted MOC.

Oh well, at least it the weather is like this now then maybe we will have an 'indian summer' and then think of all those jealous people in their tin boxes while we are out, roof down, living the high life. (well thats the dream!)

By the way coldest with roof down was 3C at night and warmest was 21.5C (but thats as hot as its been since I got Tango in October last year!)
