We got the factory alarm in ours (avail jan '05 in the US) and it works. If you stick your hand in it will squeal. But, you must wait between 30 seconds to a minute for the alarm to set. If you stick your hand in right after setting it, it will not activate the sensors. SO set it and wait a few minutes, then try again.

The sensors in the rear seat work quite well, but the ones in the front door panels are way too low. About the only protection you will get is if you put stuff inthe footwells. I can actually hop the door and stand in the seat without the alarm going off. Can open the glovebox, mess with things in the center console, and eject CDs from the radio too. The front sensors are pretty much junk in my book. MINIUSA is giving me the runaround too Aftermarket systems are a good bit cheaper and I bet they would work better.
