Offline | I do not think their is an official fix. The new mechanism is too new to be sure but given Griffer's experience I think it is better but not sorted yet. Does anyone believe this is no longer a problem? |

| MINI2 Newbie | Had my roof material changed Had my roof material changed and the 'fix' Friday last. On Monday the dreaded white marks re-appeared, I'm furious then it hit me, the mark on the middle side of the hood and the mark on the back by the seam go into French kissing mode when the roof is down. Now I understand why those stop things are so important, pity that the boffins at MINI/BMW don't. What a waste of their money replacing my roof and for what (?) correct adjustment before leaving the factory and informing the dealer network of what to do in the event of early signs of the dreaded white spot. Come on people lets come up with our own repair ! Here's one, sew/glue on a small union jack on the rear white spot on both sides so that the two parts of the roof don't rub together. Any thing is worth considering to keep our precious MINI pristine.Sorry for the rambling but would like to get you thinking about the above and eradicate (!)the dreaded 'White spot' I,m waiting ![]() |

Offline | I put black neoprene rubber sheets cut to size between the areas where the hood touches as the wear marks are still there but at normal level now. I have looked at many other convertibles with canvas roofs and you cannot stop the wear marks especially where they touch when folded or are stretched over the frame. As long as the wear is not severe after hood replacement and they carry out the adjustments detailed in my other treads the only choices are: 1. Put up with it 2. Get a hard top Mini 3. Get a coupe/cabriolet from another car maker, but these have been dogged by reliability problems and most eg Mercedes, Peugeot and Vauxhall are all made by the same French company. I will be happier though when/if they ever fix the very annoying window clicking and the numerous dash rattles, but these are only a problem when roof is up. Just hope we have a good summer! Yeah right! |

Offline | Unfortunately there is no competition. A four seat, 210bhp, well handling cool cabrio? I suppose if VW stiffened the beetle convertible and put the R32 chassis in it it would come close. I have been hoping that BMW would come up with a fix for this problem but as time goes on and more convertibles go on the road the chances of them being willing to change everyone's roof decreases significantly. It does seem odd that they have continued to produce a car with the combination of a fabric that marks and wear easily and a mechanism that allows the fabric to rub together producing this wear. Once someone has a roof that does not mark, I'll ask for a new roof which is why Griffers post is depressing. I'm just going to continue to enjoy my car (which seems to rattle and vibrate less with the strut brace in) and keep those nasty white marks hidden as much as possible by folding the roof down as much as possible ![]() |
