United-Kingdom Technical Specialists

Yeah my roof was the same, I had to get the tech specialist to approve my new hood...

NEWS....Got a call from Mini yesterday requesting my car to show the engineer from Germany BMW my roof....

If you haven't read about it, my roof is only 3 weeks old and after 2/3 days wear patches occured.

The German engineer has a specialist tool that will set the roof up specialy for the car. The problems have been coming from setting all roofs the same, when not all cars are the same....

END RESULT....Roof has been set, Mini want to wait and see if the wear gets any worse and are going to try and repair the current rubbed patches in a month.

My car is too going to the Tech Specialist 5 July!! He will have the deciding vote whether to give me a third roof!!!

I'll keep you posted

Scotland Roof Wear - Success

See my previous posting on this thread, I received a call from my dealer Eastern Mini, Edinburgh yesterday. They have agreed that there is a problem and I've to have my roof cloth replaced. They've actually got them in stock in Oxford and I could have had the work completed next week, unfortunately I need a courtesy car so can't get it fixed until 7/8 July. Some other components and adjustments are required to the roof settings to correct the fault so fingers crossed.

How much does new roof cost?

Does anybody know how much it will cost to replace the roof material in the future? Also inc. labour?

United-States From a worried soon to be owner

Keenly interested in this since I've got under a month before I get mine (fingers crossed). I noticed a mention of 303 Aerospace helping with the problem. Has anybody else tried this or any other cleaning/conditioning product with any success?

I'm not admitting to using any products on my car! but if I had used any, I would have used Autoglym stuff which would not have made a difference!
The problem with roof wear is not that it happens but BMW dealers attitude towards owners and potential owners. I would raise this with your dealer and get their commitment to your roof in writing prior to purchase!

England Poor Poll

Reading Roof Ware threads, most roof replacements appear to have been canvas only or modified hoods. New Roof should mean Complete new roof, as we have had. 3 months on, no signs of marking or wear! Seems some of you are determined to increase the depreciation of our vehicles prematurely! We joined this site before ordering our Mini to gauge owners opinions.
Get your roofs sorted or trade in your cars. Rather than whinging on this thread tell your suppling dealer to replace your Hood (Complete)

Come on where's the spirit, don't go all French on us!

I appreciate your sentiments.
But:

MINI and the dealers response has been poor.
Worldwide most dealers are ignoring this problem and speaking personally despite 10 months of going back to my dealer, writing and having my roof inspected nothing has been done to my roof. Nothing.
I have quite clearly asked for a new roof and mechanism.
MINI and it's dealers are simply in denial.
I am genuinely pleased that your roof is now perfect and this knowledge should give the rest of us the drive and confidence to persuade MINI to provide the same service.

If this thread has purpose it is to provide owners with information which will force their delaers to carry out the modifications that you have been lucky enought to have received. Lucky you.........................................What about the rest of us, sorry our comments devalue your MINI (not true of course depreciation has hit the hatch far more than the convertible)

England I remember the saying"everything before BUT is B******S"

The point I was making regarding depreciation, was that if I had seen this thread I would have never bought a Convertible.
I am not offended by any of the comments (now I need a word instead of But) ha! I was simply insisting that there is a positive solution, imo of course.
Name and shame I say.
My dealer is Altwood Maidenhead, complete roof replacement without any fuss. Only problem is they are 50miles from where we live. the service manager told me ours was the second complete replacement they had done, He expected many more would follow.
On the other hand I visited the dealer on the business park where I work "Sytner of Leic" and the two sales people I spoke two were unaware of any roof ware problems! Hmmm!

If the sun ever comes out today I'll take some pics and post. Might even wash it as it had a birthday earlier this week

Roof wear

I first saw signs of roof wear on the pre-production models at Plant Oxford way back before the official launch. I was there for the factory tour, and voila, several cabrios came in from a day out with themotoring press. EVERY one of them had marking/scuffing in the same place - I even photographed them. I was gutted, and consodered cancelling my long-standing order. But before confirming, I got into along email dialogue with BMW/MINI over this issue, and only went ahead when I'd received sufficient assurance that there would no be a problem, but if there was, BMW/MINI would not shirk their responsibilities. So I went ahead and took delievry in July last year. So far, so good

I did get worried about the appearance of white marking on the fold points, but this seems to have disappreaed when I started to use 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. Coincidence? Maybe, but I would say that my hood still looks factory fresh today - 12 months on.

Of course, if ANY sign of wear does appear before my warranty expires in 12 months, then I will be down to my dealer ina flash And if it wears after that, then I will most certianly mount a "robust" challenge with BMW. But I continue to hope that this will not be necessary....

Happy MINI motoring everyone!

Ian

Oh and dealer phoned me today to tell me they weren't keen to replace my roof at present because BMW were not confident that roof would not re-wear! Particularly a problem on blue roofs apparently

Australia Cabrio hood wear

We have an Oct04 build cabio with lots of white patches on the (blue) roof. Complaint to BMW Australia and dealer resulted in BMW service manager viewing and photographing. After a month or so we were advised that we should have a new hood fitted - and it just arrived. Will get it done with service and hope that it is better..

It is pretty obvious too!!! I'll try and get some pics and put them up but this just shows how bad the situation is!!

Also while my car was in 2 new rattles, 1 hole in gear stick gator, and they still haven't stopped it from drifting to the left....but they have found out it needs a new gearbox!!!!!!! luckly its a warrenty thing again some noise (one i've never noticed...but its getting changed anyway!!)

How strange. Our MCSC is drifting to the left and makes a clunk from 1st to 2nd gear. Is this clunk normal, does anyone else experience the same??

Roof is starting to mark as well and it's only just over a month old!!!!

Welcome to the white mark club.

As for the "clunk", I can't say that our MCSC has made such a noise. Nor does our car drift. You may want those issues dealt with.
