DIY Top Hooks not Hooking???

A few months ago I had a problem where the top my my S 'vert would not go down. Took it into MINI service, and they had to order a new sunroof frame. While waiting for the part to arrive the roof started working again and I was weary to have them replace the parts. I know that parts from the facotry always seems to work better then things that are replaced/repaired. However I didn't want to have the roof stop working over the summer, and have to wait another 2 weeks for the parts to be reordered, so when they came in I had the dealership replace it.
Now everyone in a while the passenger clip does not line up with the hole when putting the top back up. I have to push the button to make the top go back down and bit and then try closing it again, sometimes with some guidance from my hands. I knew I shouldn't have had the damn parts replace.
It is one of those intermittent things so if I do bring it back in to be looked at, it either won't happen or they will just replace the same parts, possibly making the roof out of alignment even more.
I don't know what to do! Is anyone else having this problem? What has the fix been??

RIP Boo

I know I read about this in another thread previously.

My top comes down a little crooked, and I'm always scared it won't line up (it is a little to the left on the US driver's side). If I'm parked a little tilted where gravity makes it worse, it would miss and I must guide it in.

The good news - this is something the dealer can adjusts with very little difficulty.

Thanks, I am just worried it has to do with an adjustment to the sunroff frame (which as already been replaced) and might lead to further misalignment down the road.

Meg, I had that issue once or twice when the car was very new. I just yanked on the frame and pulled it into position and wha-la, no trip to the dealer!

The same thing happened to me today as I was parked on pavement that had a slight left to right tilt - and one of the prongs did not line up properly. But when I was back on flat ground - it worked fine. If yours is not working properly on flat ground - the dealer should align for you.

Best of luck,

Mike
