Cooper Cabriolet

Hi all, a close friend of mine is very keen on the Cooper Cabriolet and has asked me for advice. Seeing that I am a nOOb about recent MINIs, I thought I would ask you guys and gals. What's the quality like? How does it compare to other similar convertibles out there? Any concerns that I should know about? Thanks!

Hi There,

Do a check up on this link on roof wear >>> http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-convertible/92694-do-all-convertibles-get-roof-wear.html

Apart from this I've heard many good things. I've just ordered mine and am hoping I will be fortunate enough to get an improved roof to those at the start of production! One month to wait! But it feels like a lifetime!!!

I have a MINI Cooper S convertible (Feb 2005 delivery) and I love it to pieces. For a manufacturer to be able to turn a 'sporty 2 door hatch' into an equally sporty 2 door convertible is no mean feat and sure there have been some issues and a few problems as well. Have a look here for more in depth info.

In my opinion for the price range, the handling dynamics, the sheer good looks and customise-ability, which only comes with a MINI, not to mention it's the only convertible in the world with a sunroof and a roof retraction time of only 15 seconds there is nothing that competes.

Some may say I am biased, others may call me a contented and enthusiastic MINI cabrio owner

Simon

As a VERY happy owner of a 2005 MCS Cabrio, I cannot give you or your friend unbiased advice.

The singularly best advice I can give is this:
Go to the MotoringFile.com website (http://www.motoringfile.com/). Type the words "convertible reviews" (without quotation marks) in the search box; also try "cabrio reviews" (again, without quotes).

You will get a very nice number of reviews (about 19) from major international auto magazines on the car, as well as a lengthy review by Gabe Bridger (MINI enthusiast and head of the MF website.)

This will give your friend a very nice overview about the pros and cons of the car.

For me, it was a no-brainer and I do not regret my choice in the least! I think it is a terrific car and absolutely love driving it. The fact that after 8 months of ownership I still look for excuses to drive it is proof enough.

2005 MCSC JCW CAI, JCW exhaust, Webb-installed Alta 15% pulley, JCW strut brace, Whalen...and still modding!

We picked up our MC Conv at the begining of July 2004(launch car). It's had a few problems, roof wear(had replaced roof), dash rattles and a few issues that STILL need sorting out however,
The handling is amazing especially on B roads(Country roads)

"It still puts a smile on my face everytime I get in the car, especially driving with the roof down or even in sunroof mode.
My roofs allways down while driving unless its raining, even at night" (dont worry about the looks youll get driving with roof down at night, its for your pleasure )

Despite the problems we have no regrets in buying our MCC. One of the most fun car you'll ever buy I decided to get the MCC as 1st convertible so could learn how to drive(handling, cornering). Will buy MCCS(for the power ) next time
