Freebies from Mini UK

I have posted before on this subject but wanted to get some feedback from mini owners. I have a cooper D waiting for a new grille so my spot lights can be fitted. I have waited 6 weeks now and was told on friday (1/6/07) they will be at least 2 more weeks. I saw red!
I emailed mini uk demanding to know what the hell was going on after previously being told by them the new grilles would be at dealers by the end of May! I also asked for a "freebie" to ease the pain of paying £325+ up front for them. They hav'nt replied. Is it because i asked for a "freebie", do you think i was right to ask? Well i think i am right and i hope others do the same as you don't get much with mini, everything is extra. I am going to give them a few more days then i will complain to BMW or failing that the european parliament. Or i could email a couple of car mags? Anyway its pathetic.

Unless they promised you you'd get the grille or lights at a certain time I don't see you have any right to demand anything. You can ask, but if they say no I think it's pretty much a case of like it or lump it.

Just ask for your money back - If they squirm, ask for a compromise in goodwill rather than a "freebie".

well mate i have already paid for the darn things like i said and they did say the grilles would be with dealers by the end of May and that was the last i heard until the dealer said another 2 weeks, so maybe i should ask for a goodwill gesture rather than a freebie, and anyway i did not demand it as you said!

So did they say they would arrive at a certain time and they're late, or were you not given a time? That's my point, if they've failed to meet something they said they would do, then you may have a case, otherwise not really. You're talking about going to the European Parliament and Motoring Mags, to say way, my stuff didn't arrive as soon as I thought it would? That's my point, if they're not meeting their own schedule advised to you that's one thing, if they're just taking a long time to arrive, that's another.

As I said, you can always ask if they'd be willing to offer a goodwill gesture as the time taken is far longer than you, or anyone else, could reasonably expect, but if they say "no", then you wont be in a position to take it any further.

You're joking, right? You're going to take BMW to the European parliament because they didn't deliver a new grille to allow you to attach some toy spot lights to the front of your shiny new car by some date not promised by them?

My advice : It's a lovely sunny day - go out an enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, and chill out with a beer ! There really are more important things in life.

Err yes bud i am joking! Look you guys, i buy the car, the grille is not compatable with the spot lights so mini have to make some from scratch, do you get my point now? Nobody realised it needed a different grille from the petrol so they have had to make some. So as i have said after 6 weeks is there any wonder i am ****ed off? And yes it does need a different grille from the petrol as the intercooler is bigger. Now as regards to toy spot lights....i need them as i drive often at 4 in the morning on a **** road in winter so don't give me toy spot lights.

i completely agree with your distress of this frustration...have been in a similar position with a wing mirror - came in 4 parts....the casing....the indicator underneath, mirror and the motor....it had to be ordered in....i paid upfront....was like well over 150 odd quid....3/4 came within 3days... yet they "misplaced" the mirror.....for a whole 5 weeks! massive inconvenience as you can imagine....i had a temp mirror stuck on...but not heated etc....and hard to see out off.....however.....i ended up getting the 47plus vat comp! you are deff entitled to some freebies or reduced labor costs etc? stress to them they were quick enough to take the order/payment of the car and the after goods so why should they be anyslower supplying the parts!... good luck with it let us know!

Don't pay up front for anything, simple, if they don't deliver then nothings lost!! Did the dealer ask you to pay up front?

I know what I would have told them... probably something along the lines of "go forth and multiply"
