Offline | My ONE D is only averaging a rather lame 42.5 mpg Having said that, at the moment I only really use it to drive 10 mins to work, and then back again. Which is along NSL roads so I tend to give the car abit of a work out. ![]() On the M/Way though it only really averages about 50 MAX!!! Regards, James. |

Offline | Hi I got about 62 mpg from the 1st tank if I remember rightly... Posted it somewhere else on here.. And at least 60 on the 2nd.. I wanted to see what I could get travelling at about 70-75 mostly on the motorway. (Incidentally Ive now found that using cruise drops the mpg by about 4) Remember that the average on the centre speedo is the long running average starting from the last time that you reset it. It will not change a lot unless you reset it at the start of a trip. To get the current average (You press the end of the left stalk until it shows it on the rpm display in front of you). This will give you the current mpg...If you are travelling along and take your foot off the throttle it will show 99.9 mpg as you aren't using any fuel (proves its realtime!) ![]() |

Offline | interesting stuff lads thanks! i have done 2600 in the dooper so it will be loosening up a bit! forgot that stuff about re setting the computer from the start of every trip but when push comes to shove 54 at the moment isnt a bad average from new! also it hardly drops when driving around town whereas the seat cupra 150 tdi did big style! so all in all i cant complain, not that i was anyway! i love the car, its great but these car mag idiots....have you read any reports on the dooper? i dont know what they were expecting! Honest John in the Daily Telegraph says its the best Mini of the lot! Not gonna argue that point! |

Offline | Another Harpo tip for boosting your average mpg... When you embark on a long journey, reset the computer once the enging has reached operating temperature. That way, it doesn't take the cold running/low mpg segment into account. Of course, that won't make your car use less fuel, but you can feel smug when the displayed figure rises beyond your expectation. |

Offline | Try varying the fuel you put in the car... You might find different results with say, BP Ultimate, Shell or dare I say it, Tesco Greenergy Diesel. Certain fuels work better with certain cars... |

Offline | I'd certainly expect to get within 2 MPG of the official figures. I have done so with any car I've had so far. If you think you are light footed, fit a vacuum guage. That really teaches you to save fuel and learn how to drive briskly. morrisminiminor |

Offline | I've just picked up a Dooper for a test drive and when I left the dealers it was showing an all time average of 44.4mpg. I reset it and for the rest of the 20 mile trip home I got it up to 48. That was mostly dual carraigeway (75mph) driving and some smooth country (55mph) so I'm not particularly impressed. My old 530d which I'd like to chop in quotes 40mpg and returns 35.7 with me driving like a loon, same difference for my wifes Golf GT TDi. Something certainly isn't right about the quoted figures, esp as the new build ones with efficient dynamics (engine stop/start) quote 72mpg... utter cobblers. I bet a std cooper would be much better financially over 3 yrs. |

Offline | My current Honda Civic gets 40+, The cooper D attracted me because of the MPG over the normal petrol cooper. Bit of a disappointment if the new ones don’t get away near 70MPG on a run. 44 MPG is not great at all. |

Offline | Just got a Dooper for a test drive until Thursday. Engine has 1800 miles on it. Mostly motorway drive home at a mixture of speeds but pushing it quite a bit of the way and the OBC showed 59.5mpg. I'm very impressed with that. Only downside of a very nice car - it rattles like hell! I'd have thought the dealer would have a demonstrator sorted! Having had 3 Coopers previously which rattled I'm disappointed they haven't sorted them out. Got a Cooper S coming to test drive on Thursday so I'll see how I get on with that! |

Offline | All mpg tests are carried out in the exact same conditions. They are not lies from BMW, but come from the independent official tests. I've done nearly 2.5k in mine, and I can easily get over 60mpg, mainly due to motorway driving. At the moment i'm going at a speed to keep up with all traffic and im getting 55-56, so I don't need to economise. Incidentally sometimes it seems to be more economical with the sport button at 70-80 if you watch the real-time mpg...how weird ![]() |

Offline | In the two days I had one I averaged about 56mpg, with one journey where I was sat in traffic for an hour. Very impressed. It will easily do over 60mpg without the traffic jams! The rattles I mentioned in the previous post were coming from the part of the dash where the 'secret' compartment is for the storage pack. It was very flimsy. I had an S the following day over exactly the same journey at the same speeds and it averaged 44mpg. Now that is amazing for a 175bhp petrol car! And this one didn't rattle. |

Offline | Maybe the weight of the car with extra's for example the size of the Alloy wheels? My VW Golf TDI 2.0 that's was a very good car and very close to the official mpg. vcacarfueldata.org.uk/information/hints-for-less-environmental-damage.asp Last edited by mark29uk : Jul 22nd, 2007 at 05:35 PM. |

Offline | I haven't reset the mpg computer since I got it, and after 1500 miles its on 56.8, which I think is very good considering it gets hammered at times, never turned the air-con off either since I got it! Since I put a Cooper S rear spoiler on seems to make it a bit more fuel friendly too... as well as keeping the rear screen a bit cleaner....just a bit lol! Make sure the tyre pressures are correct as they can raise mpg if not correct. |
