Not sure what to do - help!!

I ordered my Dooper in June. When I originally ordered it, I said to the salesman that I wanted the car in September. There were several reasons for me wanting the car then but obviously the new reg and the fuel saving gadgets were important factors.

My dealer phoned me up today and has told me the car has now been 'approved for production' (not quite sure what that means), and that my car should be delivered in August. I asked if the car would have the new gadgets but he didn't know and I am waiting for him to get back to me, I get the impression that my build date is immovable now

If it turns out that not only do i miss out on the new reg by a couple of weeks but the new fuel and emission stuff as well, i am strongly tempted to cancel my order and go elsewhere. I did ask for a september delivery and cant understand what they have now done it almost a month early when I didn't want them to.

I just wanted to see if you guys had any advice or insight.

Thanks

I think they probably assumed most people would want the car as soon as possible. If by gadgets you mean extras that you have paid for then they wont give you a car without them

I can't answer the question about whether this particular car will have the revisions or not, sorry, but I can set your mind at ease about the '57' plate.

Regardless of when the car is built and delivered to the dealer you are the customer and therefore you dictate when you take delivery.

You told your dealer when you ordered the car that you wanted a September delivery, and that is what you will get.

Most new cars arrive at dealerships a few weeks before the customers actually want them, so don't worry, this is perfectly normal.

Fair enough, its just that they assumed wrong in this instance. Sorry, by gadgets I means the new fuel saving, regenerative breaks etc. stuff

Thank you Scrogg, that helps me a lot. At least I know I can ask for September delivery, the dealer didn't mention that fact at all when I said I would be disappointed not to get the 57 plate!!

The new 08 model begins production in week 31, which is the week beginning the 30th of July. Obviously anything going through the factory before then will not have the fuel saving measures etc etc. My Dooper is being built in week 32 (from 6th August) and will be on a 57 plate - as arranged with my dealer.
If you are concerned that you won't get the new 'gadgets' check the build week of the car - the dealer knows that for certain. If you thought you were buying the 08 model, I wouldn't accept anything less. A good dealer will help you out.

Yes I though that was the week the mods were being introduced. Unfortunately my dealer doesn't appear to know when the car is being built, he just said it has been 'approved for production' which is why he is checking the dates and getting back to me.

The 08 car is the car I wanted and, so I was led to believe the one I was ordering. I am tempted to cancel and go to another dealer if it isn't, which is a shame as I was really looking forward getting my first Mini!

When I ordered my Dooper about 6 weeks ago, my dealer told me immeadiately what week it will be produced - he even showed it to me on the computer screen. I wanted a 08 model, and insisted on week 31 or later, and got week 32. Not exactly sure about this, but I think the car gets 'approved for production' about 10-14 days before it gets built. This would be right on the cusp of 07/08. Perhaps you will get the oldest 07 or first ever 08?

Thanks for the info - I thought (from what I read here) the dealers knew what build date you will be, so thats why I am confused as to why me dealer knew nothing about it (or so he says) and why he was suprised that my build has been put forward.
How very interesting....

It seems like my car will be right on the borderline between 07/08, I'll have to wait and see for the moment.

Just heard - week 30 build And there's nothing to be done to cancel it - its 'my' car

Apparently he doesn't remember me mentioning anything about the engine mods and brake stuff, otherwise they would have made sure it was wk 31 or later (my parents remember otherwise)!!

He also tried to tell me that they have only known about the mods for two weeks, I told them I have known about it for two months and the official website was updated with the new stats about a week before i ordered my car.

So I now have to phone the manager tomorrow to have a 'chat' about it. I am tempted to cancel my order and place it again and by the way I will also be claiming my deposit back as they gave me mis information when ordering the car (basically I was told to order it then and there - I wanted mid september and they said I 'd be waiting for october if I left it ). Everything was also quoted for september - finance, trade in etc. Its also not the bloomin car I ordered!!

I am really dissappointed at the mo, I really don't want this experience to put me off MINIs but its hard not to

If it's what you really want, cancel and find a better dealer..... It sounds like you wouldn't go back there anyway!

£500, so not a huge amount compared to the cost of the car.

In which case, the answer to the potential 'loss of deposit' problem is simple...

...go to another dealer, and tell them the deal you've been offered by your current dealer, but add £500 to the part-exchange value. Tell them you'll buy the car if they match it
