Offline | Rattle from O/S Engine on acceleration My wife has now collected her Cooper D and she really likes it, its a great car. There is an annoying rattle or vibration on acceleration which can also be heard when you rev the engine slightly but not as noticable as it is when actually driving. The rattle seems be coming from the O/S of the engine area. She phoned the dealer today who said it was 'normal' but to pop in and they would 'have a look' If it is 'normal' I am sure the forum members will have come across it and can let us know what the cause is. Any ideas? |

| SooperDooper | Having just done a 2700 mile run to Poland and back in my new Dooper, with flat out running for miles and coping with the awful Polish roads, on the way back, the Dooper started to rattle. Sounded like the exhaust manifold... but on inspection was in fact the air intake hose. The vibration and noise made me think something awful had happend. Take a look at the air intake, about half way along its length it is attached to the block by a lug where the rubber mount pushes onto. This comes loose and will need a new mount. There is a two week wait while they back order from Germany. As I said the vibration and noise is way beyond what you would think for just a hose coming loose. Hope this is it and helps. Steffi |

Offline | Took it into the dealers today, on the way I noticed another rattle from the dashboard! Anyway the workshop agreed that it had two rattles, the dashboard and engine, as soon as we get a chance we will have to book it in for them to rectify the problems. |

Offline | Hi - can anyone help ??? I have had my 56 Cooper now since December 06 and this last month it has developed the most annoying vibration cum rattle in the dashboard area. I have tried everything (holding the mirror as one person suggested, checking the vents another, looking in the door pockets for loose bits!!) The car went in to the garage and b****r me if the car didn't perform. Bring it in when it does it again - they said - we took it for run and we can't find it!! I have been in twice now and I leave the car running on the forecourt and guess what - yes you guessed the little b****r stops. Try recording the noise on the mobile phone was another idea!! Any ideas fellow mini lovers or am i destined to go stark raving bonkers. |

| SooperDooper | Ours had the new intake hose replaced today to stop the vibration. Fell off one mile up the road. Now held on with bag ties. The mechanic is going to e-mail Mini as he feels this could be a design fault. The air intake hose is attached by a rubber part being pushed onto a metal lug about halfway along its length. This seems to work its way loose and fall off. It also causes the open end at the front right of the car (looking at it) to vibrate against its metal surround. It sounds like a vibration behind the dash and is very annoying. I am off to B&Q tomorrow, or WHSmith to get some velcro. Hopefully this will isolate the parts causing the noise. As I said in the previous note above, the noise is out of proportion to what the problem is, it also sounds as though it is in the dash or the bulk head area. ![]() ![]() Steffi |

Offline | Well the noise has gone Scotthall's Borehamwood took the car in and found some 'loose pipes' (That's what my wife said) anyway these caused both rattles as once they re-attached the pipes both rattles went.Result.... |
