Maybe it's just my paranoid driving style (I used to drive Lotuses), but I've been avoiding using the stop-start feature until the engine's properly warmed up.

Which reminds me (not having checked the manual yet) is there any kind of temp guage on the car?

Ordered mine on 18th June, it arrived at the dealer 2 weeks ago and I collected it yesterday, new stop start model, first week of production. Hope you get your car soon Shoebox, it will be well worth the wait!

No temperature guage on an R56, just a warning light.

There is no temp gauge.....but the start stop should not operate until the car is at full operating temp anyway.....

There is a button to turn it off in the centre console

I have just reached 800 miles in the Dooper and am pleased to say that my mpg has improved from the first week to around 64 on the motorway.

My old Cooper S was a real boy racer of a car - probably the reason why I got such poor fuel economy on the motorway was the ever presen temptation to press the loud pedal and enjoy the acceleration.

The Dooper is a far more grown up car that will save me money in every way: fuel, road tax, insurance and, most importantly, speeding tickets. It naturally wants to cruise at 70 on the motorway and provides a comfortable, quiet, economical and relaxing drive at that speed. It is more than capable of going faster but is mature enough to realise that there is little point in getting into trouble!

I am getting used to the Stop Start - not only does it stop the average mpg from falling whilst sat in traffic, it also takes away any unpleasant clattering at tickover.

Does anyone know whether the Stop Start system uses a combined alternator and starter motor - it doesn't sound like a conventional starter motor and the alternator also features the special regenerative braking system?
