Blue Cooper Please post you fuel consumption and tyresize !

Would you please write down you avg. fuel consumptioni and the tyresize on your Dooper in this thread.

Thinking about getting 205/45R17 or maybe 205/35R18 if it will not COMPLETELY destroy the fuel consumption compared to the original fitted 175/65R15 wheels.

Looking foreward to your post !

Please remember to tell if you have the Cooper D with or without the automatic start/stop system !

This is an interesting point - wheel size vs fuel consumption.

My Cooper D auto is getiing 48 mpg on 17in wheels. Will the size of the wheels directly effect fuel consumption or is it because the on board computer is calibrated for 15in (or perhaps 16in) wheels? I can't find any info from Mini. Any comments please.

Is yours an 07 or 57 plate. Will be interesting to see if there is much difference in average day-to-day use.

on my 57 plate i was getting about 61mpg with 17" rims over the first 3000 miles and now with 16" blasters on for 500 miles I'm getting 63mpg. Most driving is commuting on motorways so not much use of the stop/start..

but as much use of the cruise control as poss and of course strictly observing the speed limits

How come you downgraded from 17's to 16" was it for better fuel economy?

It should not make any difference because the rolling circumference should be the same. Smaller wheels usually go with deeper tyres rather than the lower profiles of larger wheels.

After all if it made a difference then the speedo would be out as well. The key with wider section tyres associated with larger wheels is a slight increase in rolling resistance and a small increase in wind resistance.

I'm getting about 60-61mpg on the standard 16inch alloys. I have done about 1300miles so far.

Thats with me driving fairly sedately - hopefully it will improve over time as well!!

ooh its the 57 model btw (not that I use the start/stop on my journey)

I liked the look of the 17's but fancied the 16's and got them of a bloke who had upgraded to 18's. Also, thinking of getting a R50 so they may come in handy...

also, the Blaster's are doddle to clean in comparison. Ride a bit softer too

I managed 69.2mpg on the 170mile trip up to my folks on Saturday. That dropped a bit to 67.5 coming back - probably due to it being a good deal colder. I'm on the standard 15" R101 Rotor Spoke Alloys.

Wheel and tyre size do make a significant difference not only to the economy, but to the speedo and the mileage. We've all seen this when we go on runs and find the quoted mileages are different to actuals. The circumference might only be slightly different but over hundreds of miles it adds up.
