wipers on cooper d

Hi picked up my new cooper d last wednesday and loving not having to fill up very often, but today i discovered something that really annoys me.

There are only two options to set the windscreen wipers too. 1 is the constant option and the 2nd is the storm/fast wipers. Where is the intermittent wiper option?? I used to have this on my 07 cooper???

Is everyone else's 57 cooper d like this??

Cheers, Andy

There should be an intermittant option. Someone else posted that there's had disappeared!

Out of interest, do you have rain sensing wipers?

Yeah on the new R56's its the button(took me ages to find it!). The loaner Dooper I had a few days ago had the normal push up once for intermittent wipe, but I found it intermittent to work! lol drove me crazy!

Does this new wiper stalk mean the 57 Coopers now have variable intermittent speeds or is it still just the one setting like the 07 model?

As far as I can tell you get slow, fast and intermittent (seems to vary depending on road speed). I think you would have had to get the rain sensor fitted for anything more sophisticated.

The standard fix is one intermittent setting on the button. Looking at the stalk again (who does) I noted amongst the various graphics that you usually find there is another at the far end which shows an intermittent graphic and a small open triangle as an arrow pointing inwards to signify that the end should be pressed.

I wouldn't call that sophisticated. I had a '68 Rover 3.5 Coupe, and that had continuously variable intermittent wipers. That was sophisticated - 30 years ago!

This would now leave it the same as the rest of the latest BMW range!

Our 3 series has this, but I was surprised that the button was not on our 07 Dooper!

Intermittent / auto wipers

I picked my car up last week.
This has the intermittent wipers with a button on the end of the wiper stalk.
(my car has the stop / start)
Although I have also specified the rain sensor option.
The problem I've found with the sensor is that you have to press the button each time to start the auto function. It does not seem to keep the setting.

For intermittent there is a function on the rev counter display to change the intermittent timing.
Not very user friendly if you wanted to alter it during driving.

I did wonder if this was the case with the Mini. The Clio I had previously has auto wipers and for those to work you just had to leave the wiper stalk set like you would for intermitent on other cars, and they would work themselves. It seemed an odd concept to have to press the button everytime you started the engine like you have to in the MIni.

It works as it should on Ford Mondeo... (i.e. switch on once and be covered for the rest of your life)

the wipers automatically stop once the car has stopped moving. you get intermittant which annoyingly isnt variable like most other manufacturers, 1st speed and 2nd speed setting. Also BMW have remained to use the old style wipers, current manufacturers tend to use the aeroblade now, a piece of spring steel one side and the wiper blade the other, it ensures constant presssure along the blade whilst at high speed, stops any lifting of the blade, and give a much better wipe, no drag, they are also cheaper to manufacturer and easier to fit and replace. BMW have insisted to use the old style steel frame with a plastic spoiler attached to it with the replaceable blade.

The aeroblade isn't perfect either - they give me problems on the beemer, and my dads car has them , i would say they are mor juddery than conventional ones!
