06 mini one or 08 Cooper D?

Hi folks just a quick question for you Copper D owners. I currently have an 06 mini one with a lot of extras on and am thinking about buying/getting a new 08 Cooper D, but am just worried about problems with the R56 models which seem to be quite common with loads of different faults through out the range.

But seeing as you folks drive these cars daily your the best to ask, should I go for it or should i not? not had any major problems with my current car and If I go for the Diesel It will not have as high a spec as i have now. But my main requirment will be for it to have good fuel consumption, because current fuel prices are a joke and i am not getting that great a mileage with petrol these days.

So any help and advice you guys can give me would be greatfully appreciated. Thank you all in advance Ali (zimbo)

Hi

This thread is perfect for me

Reason : Well ive currently got an 06 ONE with a fair amount of extras (also had no faults), and am currently waiting for delivery of my 08 Cooper D on March 1st

I would say go for it but then i guess i am a bit biased

The Cooper D is fantastic car (have you driven one?) and my reason for choosing it is not only the good fuel consumption and tax banding but also for the amount of torque the car has.

I drove a Petrol Cooper after the D and I was not impressed by it at all!!

Im a bit worried about getting rid of my 'perfect car' but to be honest it may or may not stay that way, a year down the line it could have something wrong with it (i doubt it but you never know!) Im not too worried about the faults on the R56 anymore, as long as youve got a good dealer, problems should be sorted easily. And faults can happen on any car at any time, no matter what make/model it is!

Good luck deciding

Would a high spec 2008 MINI One not be the ideal solution to your problem? That way you'll have low fuel consumption (admittedly not as low as that of the Cooper D) and a highly specced car. Don't mind all of the nonsense talk of R56 problems etc - sure a few owners have had a few problems, and it is only the problems we hear about on the forum, the other 99.8% of R56 owners are happy with their cars. I personally believe that R56 build quality and reliability is, at worst, equal to that of the first generation of MINIs.

Dont know anything about the Dooper but can agree with MINI&MERCGUY about the R56 - you will always hear about the problems on the forum - I have an R56 S and its fine

Also, if you go for the Dooper you can always add upgrades to your car after like alloy wheels, lights, decals, chrome, ICE, etc.etc. If buying the Dooper just spec the extras that are difficult to fit after...

I've got a Cooper D and have had no problems.

You will take a long time to recover your costs of upgrading from a ONE to a Cooper D, but you'll have a lot of fun in the meantime! Have you got an insurance quote for a D, as that might be a factor.

What options have you got on your ONE?

I have an 02 Cooper and looking at the Cooper D. Is there much difference in insurance with the D having a turbo? I currently pay £262.50 a year fully comp (protected) with 2 named drivers. I am 33.

As the Cooper D has slightly less power than the Cooper, the insurance might be cheaper! I pay £190 a year fully comp (protected) with 2 named drivers. I am 40.

If I was in the market for a new Cooper, it would be the D version everytime!

I have test driven both engines petrol and diesel. There is just something more exciting driving the D.

OK it has lack lasture acceleration in !st and 2nd but once your into third the car come comes into iis own and it just pulls and pulls..

I bought a MINI Cooper D last Friday and up to now have found 5 faults with it so it's going back to the dealer to be sorted on Tuesday... you know what though, I still love the car to bits and if you were unlucky enough to get a faulty car I'm sure the dealership would be more than helpful as they have been with myself.

Get a Cooper D
