| MINI2 Regular | Just read this from here advice - Clean Green Cars ... The second-part of the review with its recommendations for UK Government transport policy will be eagerly awaited and it is just a shame that it will not be issued in time to influence next year's Budget. After all, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling did promise to take into account The King Review's findings and expressly said that "the 2008 budget will include further measures to encourage the next generation of cleaner cars and incentives for people to buy them". 57 Mini Cooper, Astro Black. |

| MINI2 Regular | The dealers will not have, I presume, prior knowledge of any VAT decrease or road tax amendments prior to the budget next week (12th March) and therefore will be charging the current rates. If this does alter then you should benefit as you haven't taken delivery/started any finance agreement (I stand to be corrected) as long as the government start any plans immediately after the budget or say 1st April. 57 Mini Cooper, Astro Black. |

Offline | Ok I don't know how this works but..... I went to Derek Woodman (Blackpool) to order my new Cooper D and it came to approximately £17,500. After looking at the details I said I would go away for a couple of hours to have a think and probably pop down to leave a deposit and finalise. 3 hours later we popped back round to do the deal, however the guy we dealt with told us rather embarrassingly that he had made a mistake on the comp and that because the car is going to be collected in April I would have to pay the higher fee - he put all the details back on the comp and it came to about £300 more. As you can imagine we were quite ****ed off at this and after trying to negotiate we walked away. Before we walked out though the guy we dealt with assured us that we would get charged this at ANY MINI dealership. Following day we went to Bowker BMW in Blackburn. We did the whole thing again and it came to the same higher price. But I negotiated more for the part ex and so bought the car then. I really don't know how this works? It would be worth seeing what others have paid for brand new cars around now? What do you guys think? ![]() |

Offline | I think you were probably just quoted the new price that I think applies to all MINIs that will be delivered after 1st April, not an anticipated VAT. David |

Offline | On the flipside, we rushed into our local dealer last weekend and althought it was far too late to order another Dooper we bought a 118d instead. They reckon it will be close as to whether we'll actually get the car before 31st of march (factory order in 5 weeks) but if it doesn't they'll just invoice for then so we can still write it off against the 07/08 tax year. |

Offline | That is correct, the extra charge is to cover the now standard DSC (after week 10) and other little changes to the car which happen on cars built on Week 10 and after. ![]() The Orange Blob As My Avatar Is The Mascot Of JetAlliance Racing Called 'Carli'. |

Offline | "The chancellor is also expected to unveil measures aimed at cutting carbon emissions from cars and a move to increase biofuel use. Weekend newspaper reports said the chancellor might introduce a levy on new, larger cars, such as people carriers, that could increase their price by £2,000." BBC Web! if he can add tax on higher Emissions I take it he can do the same to lower tax on lower emissions......go an Darling! |

Offline | Or they could just increase the tax on the more polluting cars, not reduce the tax on less polluting cars, and pocket the lot. Hmm, based on this lot's track record, I'd say that an increase in taxes with no equivalent decrease elsewhere is the most likely outcome. Makes a difference to me, too, as I'm self-employed. I found out about the write-off provisions too late to get a new car ordered before the 31st. So I'm in a position where *IF* the Chancellor continues to make low emmisions cars attractive, I'll order one post-Budget; but if he doesn't extend the current scheme or bring in something equivalent, then stuff the environment, I'll buy a JCW! As for invoicing, my understanding of the current tax write-off provisions is that the car has to be invoiced on or before 31/3, but also *registered* on or before the 31st too ![]() |

Offline | Interesting! I have actually read it all properly this time rather than posting willy nilly... I ordered my car on the 28th Feb and it's due for delivery on approx 7th April What will it mean for me (if anything) IF and only IF (I am thinking it's unlikely) that tax rates are cut? |

Offline | You will have to pay to HMG whatever duty and VAT applies at the point of delivery - collected by the supplying dealer on its behalf and remitted to it. Any announcement in the budget will only affect you if the Chancellor sets a start date that's before you take delivery - so your order date doesn't matter. David |
