Offline | If you read the full budget document you will see the the VED on the new band B (101-110 g/km) for the 2009-2010 year is now £20 so we'll save £15 a year. Also the 100% writing down allowance for low emitting cars will continue until 2013 but only for cars below 110g/km so the nice discount for business users is still available too! |

Offline | The Chancellor didn't bother to tell anyone but the Treasury's Financial Statement hides some good news. I have only checked my Clubman brochure but it appears that the VED (tax disc) standard rates are to fall for all MINIs, comparing the 2009-10 rates with 2008/9 : There will also be new bands H to M for vehicles emitting 151 g/km to over 255g/cm ranging from £175 pa to £440. The full table, including the new 2010 first year rates of zero for cars emitting less than 130 g/km and rising to £950 for those emitting over 255 g/km, is attached. ( I'm glad I swapped my Jaguar for a Clubman D!) David Last edited by dlpruk : Mar 12th, 2008 at 03:36 PM. Reason: Added 2010 rates. |

Offline | Here's the official blurb from the Treasury's own website - in a nutshell, it's good news for people like me who are self-employed and thinking about buying a Dooper (whether hatch or clubman). I was thinking about a JCW, but the first year savings in terms of petrol, road tax, insurance and the write-down allowances is (for me, with my mileage) probably in the region of £5-6000 on top of the price difference at the showroom! Perhaps even more, as the JCW is over the 160g threshhold so attracts a WDA of no more than 10%. So buying the greener car becomes a no-brainer (which is after all what the Chancellor wants). Although the threshhold for 100% first-year WDAs drops to just 110g of CO2, the Dooper stil meets that target. Anyway, here's a cut & paste from Budget 2008: 01 With effect from 1 April 2009 for corporation tax purposes (6 April 2009 for income tax) the capital allowance treatment of all cars will be reformed. Expenditure on cars with CO2 emissions above 160g/km will attract 10 per cent Writing Down Allowance (WDA) and expenditure on cars with CO2 emissions of 160g/km or below will attract 20 per cent WDA. Subject to State aid approval, cars leased to those in receipt of certain disability allowances will be placed in the 20 per cent main pool, regardless of their CO2 performance. The rules which disallow a proportion of car lease rental payments will be reformed in line with the new capital allowances rules. The new disallowance will be 15 per cent of the relevant payments, applied to cars dealt with in the 10 per cent special rate pool. The Government is considering the option of applying the disallowance only to the final business user in a chain of leases. In addition to this:

Offline | My mate owns his own business so far he writes off I think its something stupid like 80% of his fuel. He runs a new Range Rover, A Jag, and a Mini cooper and pays less in fuel in real terms than me running a old Honda Civic. He does in about £100 of fuel easy a week but seems to get most of it back. We were talking what is this write off of 100% could he buy a brand new cooper D through his business and there would be a Vat rebate of 100% on it? |

Offline | Hi. I've just joined the forum and am seriously thinking about putting an order in for a cooper D clubman in the next couple of week. This isn't a stopper for me going ahead, but I was speaking to the dealer who said the cooper D clubman had been re-banded up to the Band C. Something to do with it being heavier and in another weight class which I think is complete rubbish. I've checked the DVLA website and it puts it very much in Band B. I have e-mailed them and am waiting for a reply from them to confirm one way or another. As far as I'm aware the clubman has the same CO2 emissions as the hatchback and is only 85kgs heavier. All the information I can find on car tax banding links in with emission levels only for cars manufactured after March 2001. Has anyone else had this experience recently? I do think they are taking the mick. It's bad enough that they are offering naff all in terms of free-bees or discount considering the extras I'm thinking about getting for it (there are far too many optional extras!), but this really takes the biscuit. |

| MINI2 Regular | Cooper D Clubman is 109g Co2/km which in 08/09 is £35 and then in 09/10 & 10/11 drops to £20. Hope this helps. If you want more info do a google search for budget 2008 and download the PDF. On page 122 (Table A8.a) has all the information you need to show your dealer. Which dealer is it BTW? 57 Mini Cooper, Astro Black. |
