Just so much about the new gen that I don't like, the whole feel of the car - feels so remote when driving - not the same involvement!, backward step in the build quality like dodgy sunvisors, wheel arch trims flying off, cold air blowing around knees from round the steering wheel, wheel alignment up the left! cost cutting changes - like the $h!t stereo, tiny scraps of leather on 1/2 leather seats and things like lack of seat belt adjusters - all cost cutting measures driven by accountants not engineers or designers!

I could go on, but wouldn't wanna rain on you parade!

Sorry for the problems, but it's good to hear that things are on the mend!

As for the hire car, it could be worse... I once had a Nissan X-trail as a rental. 150 miles on the clock - so basically brand new, and absolutely everything rattled. Technically, it seemed ok, but was a bit big to park in the small spaces at work and it certainly gave the impression that the interior was held together behind the scenes with paper clips and high hopes. Was certainly glad to get the MINI back a few days later!

All the best,
Andrew.

The courtesy car has been replaced - bye bye Ford Ka, hello BMW 320D.
I think I have discovered where all the build quality goes within the BMW organisation goes . It clearly doesn't cross the North Sea from Germany
Will found out if the new injector does the job tomorrow sometime

Spoke to the BMW technician who came out to see my car, and he told me that the next job after mine was a MINI, with an injector problem

Just driven 60 miles in mine, and all feels and sounds well

Mine Too!!!!

Hey, your problems sounds like what mine has just started doing!

I have had my Minui since Feb 1st and started fine. Its now done 4k and when idling she sounds like the engine is gonna fall out! I have booked mine in for next thurs. Not happy bunny I had a golf which had done 120k not one thing wrong with that ever! so currently a little disappointed.

Keeping finger crossed for you

Problematic car!

I too have had problems with my 57 reg Mini Cooper D. To be quite frank, its been in the garage more than on my drive!! Initially, the car un-locked itself! Yes, unlocked itself and despite many trips to the garage, they could find no problem as the chip wasnt registering anything. After 3-4 trips, they eventually reset the chip and changed the door-locking mechanism which reduced the amount of times its unlocked itself from 6-10 times a week to twice in the past 4 months!
I have also experienced this horrible noise coming from the fan, which also made the car judder! I have reported it months ago to the garage and on numerous occasions and they found nothing. I had to record this noise to be believed that there was something wrong with the car, and heard nothing from the garage. One night when i got home, i rang the garage whilst the car was running so he could hear the loud noise. I was assured that it sounded extremely loud and that this problem needed to be fixed. Driving around when your car sounds like its going to blow up cross between a HGV, its even worrying especially when you approach traffic lights or when the car is on tick-over. After my initial reporting of this problem some months ago, my car was taken in nearly two weeks ago. I have just heard from the garage who has fed me further twaddle about this problem. Apparently, there has been numerous reports of this noise and the theory behind this is:::: (i kid you not) Due to the increased technology, the actual noise that i have been experiencing is the particle filter in the exhaust? And that this is normal for the car to function in this way!!! When i put my head to the engine-it sounded like it was coming from the fans – but, as the garage believe, im female and blonde, so what would i know?! Its taken them 2 weeks to conclude this method, despite my months of requesting help and advice.
Im that disgusted with the lack of support and services in which my dealership has provided and am putting my car for sale. Its been the worst 18k i’ve ever paid. Wouldn’t recommend this car to anyone.

Sorry to hear of your problems

My 08 Dooper went back all last week with the stop/start not always re-starting, but they replaced a part and its been ok *touch wood* (not to mention the 6 other times it had been back in the workshop )

The noise your getting, sounds like its the cooling fan, does it sound like a Hovercraft?? If so, I (and many others) have been told this is perfectly normal, although highly embarassing!

Thats what I thought to, have a read of this

If you are not happy with the service you are getting from your dealership, take your car elsewhere. Any MINI dealership can do your warranty work. Take the car out with a BMW/MINI technician and demonstrate the problems. My car goes to Woodmans in Blackpool, which is about a 100 mile round trip from here - just for excellent customer service.

Stick with it, as somebody will sort it out for you.

If you think the service / explanations are inadequate then involve MINI customer services, that usually puts a different slant on things
