List of Dooper ECU chips

Hello everyone!

I have had recent thoughts whether to purchase a Cooper S or not - but then taking into consideration fuel prices, this might be the sensible option.

With 110 bhp from the Dooper, I am currently running 131 bhp in my Mini One. My main doubt is the power. I do not want to get a less powered car, so would also like to get an ECU upgrade.

I see that superchips have released a ECU remap producing 126 bhp.

Is there anymore out there? I was wondering if Alta released one?

Id absolutely love it if there was an ECU remap out there making it to 150bhp

The torque curves and in-gear acceleration times are what sold me on the idea of a D, as much as the low running costs. But you may see things differently.

I dont think there are any well known tuners making an ecu upgade for the cooper d at the mo however you may find you dont need one, it may have less power than your one but it has much more torque so it should be as fast most of the time

My mistake - Superchips are doing an ecu upgrade, +20bhp and + 42 NM

What does the ecu upgrade do to the reliability, fuel economy and emmissions?

I was thinking of chipping mine but I heard these engines have heat issues if they're running oo much power and if BMW find out it's chipped... well, say bye to your warranty etc.

To be honest, it's a pretty fast car anyway. Off the line, most diesels don't do too well but once you're in second+ you should see a big difference compared to a petrol.

And thats why the cooper has a faster 0-60 and top speed? With a relitively small increase such as the one from the superchip there shouldnt be an issue with overheating. There will be marginally more wear on parts like the clutch but thats not likely to effect you too much. As this chips not in the form of bluefin you wouldnt just be able to return it to normal if you took it in to the garage so your warranty would be void which is a bummer Emissions wont really be effected and fuel economy could increase due to more driveability from a better spread of torque etc but obviously if you push the car economy will drop

Def need a JCW Dooper.

I got wasted today by a VW California TDi camper van. It was right up my chuff out of a roundabout and I kept it behind me up to 80 and then I pulled over and it flew past. I nearly bought one two years ago, gutted, off to find a beer now, sob.

Bob, two points:
1) Next time keep your eyes open and out drive it through the roundabout.
2) There is speed above 80mph.

PS Did the beer help?

Sid

1) I did claw a bit back at the next roundabout (but that barge didn't exactly disgrace itself there either!).

2) (Cough), I know, but plod read forums too and as much as I realised I shouldn't use my real name on a forum the admins have yet to reply to my request to change it.

The beer is helping nicely thanks!

The camper was probably chipped... VW's gain stupid amounts from a basic chip upgrade.

I had an Audi A4 2.0 TDI tailing me today so put my foot down and pulled away. Happened several times in traffic on the motorway... couldn't keep up.

I drive a Dooper and a VW Touran 2.0 TDI. Guess which is the fastest!

My Touran has an unchipped 138 bhp engine which is conservatively rated by VW - apparently it actually puts outs 150 bhp when measured on a dynamometer. It is certainly feels a lot faster than the MINI despite being heavier and capable of carrying 3 more passengers.

The Dooper definitely need more bhp but I am sure BMW are desperate for it to stay beneath the magic 109 CO2 limit as it is a major part of their green credentialling.
