58 reg 7k mile dooper auto box, averaged 54mpg (12 miles/litre) travelling @ about 70mph over a 500mile trip.

Well chuffed for an auto.

Currently as im working in Portsmouth i do 191 each way and ive done 2800 miles so far. done a few runs:

1. normal motorway speeds aka max 70 mph got 52 mpg at the end of 382 miles.

2. just a normal pootle down varing speeds and mostly cruise control i got 68 mpg. once again it was over 382 miles

3. Eco Run, Sat three car lengths behind a truck so to reduce drag, so speed was at there limited speed of 56-58 mph all the way, tbh it wassnt that bad as it was the cruise control on and i just listend to my music all the way. only did this one way though but it returned a massive 89mpg over 191 miles!! the range just went up and up and when i re-fueled at the end range was re-set to 788 miles . wish i had taken a photo as i know you probbly wont belive me!

Oh and this was all on Shell v-power and BP Ultimate when shell wassnt around.

hello forumites little question... might make me sound daft but the diesel light came on with 2 bars left on the gauge, read up and says when the light appears theres 1.8gallons left in tank. my gauge told me there was 80miles left in the tank, ive done 30miles since and theres only 1 light left on diesel indicator, whats the chances theres still 50miles left in that 1 light? i dont drive like a rally driver just wanting to know what sorta miles am getting for the money im putting in, i know i shouldnt run it so low so just wondering really... thanks,

I wouldn't trust the 'miles remaining' as a way of working out fuel consumption. Simply fill up, note or zero the mileage and when you next fill up note the miles and quantity of fuel and do the math. Better to do this over a few tankfuls to get a more accurate calc.

This is the way I've always verified my mpg, but I'm finding the MINI a bit of a pain as the pump cut-off seems to never happen at the same point twice so I can never guarantee that the tank is brimmed and as a result I've had some impressive mpg figures and then discovered the tank isn't full

I'll have to try a different filling station and see if it's a brand problem but does anyone else have issues filling up the car?

Chris

Dont rely on the pump cutting off - just keep filling until it gets to the top or until you feel it's there. Most pumps differ and you might have it poked down the filler slightly differently anyway. Once you get to nearly full the actual error in calculation will be small too so you'll be close. The more tankfuls / miles, the more accurate it will be.
