Blue Cooper mini Dooper Fuel Survey

Hi

Been thinking about this for some time and have finally decided to do it.

This is gonna be my mini Dooper Fuel Survey - 2008

Granted it's not gonna be too big but I'm hoping fellow Dooper owners will throw in their 2pence worth!

However I wanna only keep this as a Dooper thread as this is what a dooper is for - the mpg baby!

So ths is how it's gonna be.

My milegage was 3783 miles - got my dooper in sept 07.

For the most part it was just city driving using BP Diesel wilth some BP Ultimate thrown in every so often for good measure.

In the next few weeks I will be doing about 1000 miles a week.

In the last week I have done 1002 miles - 160 miles for five days - going on the A3 -> M25 -> M27 ------->>

I will use Shell V-Power diesel for the next 2 weeks driving at an average of 55 miles per hour and will use gentle acceleration and early braking techniques and try to use the dooper as it was planned to be driven.

I have done this type of of drving for about a week already and my mpg had gone from 44 mpg to 47.2 - now is this down the the fuel? probably not!

Now If I continue to drive as I have been doing for the past week my Mpg should stay the same or near enough give or take a couple of mpg.

So I wanna see if the premium Diesels fare any better with regards to mpg.

The reason I say this is because for the past week I was filling up with Tesco's Diesel!!!

So I decided to try out Shell V-Power to see if I notice any differnce.

I drove the car with a tank full of V-power Diesel (and got a free enzo too - bonus ).

Okay - You can feel the difference of the V-Power diesel immediately - it's subtle and thats the beauty of it! The acceleration is much smoother and the car seems to purr when it's idling instead of the usual diesel gruff noise I had gotten with Tesco Diesel, even when cold. It also seems to have a bit more pull when you put the hammer down when needing to quickly pull away.

But I will see how the V-power Diesel goes over the next few weeks and then see if I notice any difference when I switch over to BP ultimate.

As I said if any dooper owners wanna help please do.

Oh and If you guys can think of better ways to making this test more fair please add them.

Cheers

dooper

I am only using V-Power Diesel anyway (mainly coz round here its cheaper than Ultimate Diesel and my old ONE ran better on V-Power Petrol than Ultimate )

Im only doing short journeys but still getting 56mpg at the moment

Our Cooper's run in - Doing short journeys (>2miles), but is struggling to get 36mpg (35.8 to be precise) A re-think may be in order

My mums Cooper gets 39mpg on 10-15mile journey (one way) and it was getting 40 odd before it went to the dealers a few months ago.

God knows what my brother gets. (heavy foot)

52.5 mpg over 2000 miles from new in very mixed brisk driving but no commuting. I switched to BP Ultimate after using whatever the dealer supplied and now get noticeably less noise and a cleaner pick-up. I shan't try any other fuel.

I seem to average 56mpg on my 56 mile round trip to work and back. Mainly motorway, sitting at 75mph. I got 72mpg once , but never been close since - think the wind must have been behind me .

I've only covered just over 2000 miles, and am currently getting an average of 54.7. My journey to work is around 20 miles, most of those on dual carriageway doing around 60 mph
and the rest in slow moving rush hour traffic. I've had a few long runs to London with average motorway speed between 80 - 100, so overall I am quite pleased.

Daily commute is 30 miles each way, on A and B roads, fairly light traffic. Past 11,000 miles now so engine nicely loosened up. Using standard Esso diesel, havent tried the premium stuff. Normal average over a week is 63 to 64mpg, correlated by the amount put in at the pump and the mileage. Best ever run one way, during a half term week with litle traffic and driving like a doddery old git bought 71.1mpg.

Km/h? You need to speed up a little bit.

Same here!! When the EM light was on, it turned out to be an intake solenoid - Taking in too much air or something, and the car was averaging around 42mpg! A decrease of 5mpg, and its not as if the driving style or workload has changed at all! Its been down into the mid 20's across Germany (3 up with air con at about 110 all the way and a lot more at some points)

I use V-Power Diesel for my current One D and it just feels so much nicer!

The performance seems better and I get a bit more mpg from it. I've never tried Ultimate

Will defo be using V-Power when I get my Dooper - plus you get a freebie when you fill up!!

BP Ultimate has the highest Cetane Number of any diesel available at UK pumps. (A guaranteed minimum of 55, compared with a typical 51 and the unspecified "Over 51" claimed by Shell for pump V-Power, but I assume they boost their race fuels by increasing the GTV content.)

The benefits of smoother and quieter running and less smoke seem well worth the cost in a car with typical MINI D economy, to me, without even taking any mpg gains into account as well.

I do a 63 mile daily round trip to work, 60/40 motorway/B roads. I have an 07 Dooper.
Using cruise as much as possible I have experimented with different speeds and I have found that (on a 'non-windy' day) in my Dooper:

67/68 mph gets about 65-68mpg (I use this the most as you can pass lorries without dawdling! and the mpg is good)
60-65 mph around 70mpg.
70 mph about 58-59mpg.
75 mph anything from 52 - 55mpg
80 mph lucky to get 50!

The most I have got from one tank is 555 including miles left in the tank. I reckon 600 is possible, 640 on an 08 Dooper going on the better Mpg?

I have 16 inch bridge spokes and auto-air conditioning (that I don't use very often)
Also the Hi-Fi stereo, that if I'm travelling alone I have it LOUD..

I will test BP Ultimate and/or V-Power before it gets to £1.50/litre
(judging by the way that crude oil is having daily new highs, probably in a few months!)

I drive mostly country roads, so varying between 30 and 60. Round trip to work and back is 35 miles and I'd say I'd be doing 60 about 50% of the time.

Had my 08 model Dooper now for 6 months and the economy is coming out at a steady 62mpg (based on the OBC). I usually use Shell Diesel though occaionally get BP or Tesco. Don't really notice any difference between the makes and have never tried any Premium Fuels (because they don't do them round these parts).

Never broke 500 miles on a tank, even though the OBC always tells me I could after I've filled up, but it soon drops back and I usually have to fill up at 430 miles - though I only ever put about 33 litres in before the pump cuts out. I'm not sure if this is because of the reserve, or that there may be a problem with my OBC telling me I have less fuel in the tank than I actually have.

Oh and I'm running on 15" non-runflats at the moment.

I currently in the hunt for a Dooper basically because it’s been a few years since I’ve enjoyed driving. I’m always thinking about the MPG, I used to go runs all the time up here in Scotland but its got to expensive. I even thought about getting rid of the car altogether and if it was not for the fact I take my mother shopping and help her out I’d probably give cars a miss….Shame its getting stupidly expensive.

Greens seem to be winning but then again it’s not them it’s just a greedy government. Great to hear your D MPG……..

No compalints on consumption

Had the Dooper since Nov 07 and now covered 3000 miles. Used Shell Diesel since the dealers tankful was used.
Over the last 1000 miles the average consumption has been 57.6mpg.
Normal journey is 22 miles round trip, 6 miles is town, the remainder is B roads where the traffic moves at 50-55 mph.
Best so far is 72mpg on a 110 mile mostly motorway.

The car has 17 inch run flats, also have the auto a/c on 100% of the time set to 21 degrees.

If you are getting average consumption in the 30's, then there is something wrong with the car.

Very curious to get some more info on the Ultimate V-Power fuels. I am not convinced it will save me money (the reason I try to up my MPG...).

In my previous car (A3), I did better than the advertised 54 MPG, so I was kind of hoping for better resuls on the Dooper than at the moment, but then again, I normally only go by what the computer tells me, so there could be big differences in that...

They may not save much, if any, money. But my Clubman D is very noticeably quieter, smoother and more responsive since using BP Ultimate after the dealer fill. And that means more to me than fractions of a penny per mile.

(I have no experience of Shell's V-Power diesel so can't comment, except to say I'm not inclined to use a fuel with a lower Cetane number than I have to.)

Am well impresses with all your economy stats - the best I have ever had is 53mpg on a run back from London. On average, I hover around the 48-50mpg mark, and that is with a mix of motorways and town driving.

Maybe I am not getting as good as some of you lot cos I was keeping up with a GP down the M62 the day I picked it up, with only 0.6miles on the clock!!
