Range

Hi guys just a quick question, on average driving (a roads, bit of town bit of dual carrige way say) what range do you get?

I currently have a r53 s and get around 270 -300 miles per tank. I am not expecting the performance of the d to be as good, will need a test drive to see if it is enough but does it pull well enough to overtake people briskly?

I have also been on the new s forum checking out their mpg and ranges, they are good for an s but if the real world range in the d is as good as the book says, then it will be a close decision!

Cheers guys

I get 400 miles per tank under the same scenario as you describe and would expect 450+ on a long journey.

The D isn't a boy-racer's tool but the mid-range torque means overtaking is a breeze - in 3rd from low speeds and 4th up to the legal limit if you're in a hurry. (Otherwise 5th and 6th are all you need.)

MINI claim a theoretical 605 miles range for the Clubman D, and 450 for the petrol version and 490 for the S - with its bigger tank. But I don't think these are any more relevant in the real world than the 68.9/51.4/44.8 mpg they claim for Combined fuel consumption.

I don't doubt that an obsessive driver could get close to these by tailgating an HGV up and down the motorway but I don't drive like that and am perfectly happy with 52mpg from new and 400 miles per fill. (I don't know the claimed figures for coupés off-hand but they should be a few percent better because of the lighter weight.)

No doubt about it, its dangerous being stuck in with all the hgv's, not to mention tiresome! I had a clubman courtesy car last week (petrol good spec), and it was a sweet unit- it got lots of looks (pw/bl with lots of checks lol). The only thing i am unkeen on in the new one is the dam fuel gauge,i would rather have a needle as i wasnt sure when the next "blob" lol was going to dissapear! Must say though the handling is as good on the clubman, it had 16's on!

The gauge is really awkward, especially because it goes on red really quickly

Just been reading this and I had the exact same issue with the fuel gauge lol!

I suppose in the end I just learnt to use the trip computer instead.. managed to get to a petrol station with 6 miles spare according to that

Know what you mean about the fuel gauge!! Don't like the temperature reader as well!

I have only had my car for 3 weeks now - done about 1150 miles on it and i'm getting about 450 miles to a tank approx. Which I think is pretty damn good considering my ONE D used to get less than that but took 50L. Also hoping it will get better as I run the car in more..

Thats good going for a new car, i was impressed with the new r56. I can still see the plus points for keeping my car, and the negatives. After driving the new shape i think the fuel gauge was/is the only slightly dodgy thing, and perhaps there should be an engine temp gauge for the s at least. It was brought home to me today as i was going to work, a really old fiesta loads of smoke struggling up the bank, over took him. Got to work (about 10 miles down the line) with some spirted driving. Got 1 mile away, stuck in a jam and guess who pulls up behind? Lol yup the uncle festa. Might as well have had the mini one!

Ah, yes. The temp gauge. Forgot about that. I never strain a car that hasn't warmed up yet, but now there is no way of telling.

Personally, I would also like to have a setting where it shows speed in the digital screen as well as consumption in the smaller screen, but can't have it all I guess...

Well not me - always get 400-450 off a tank - pretty much like everyone else

That's on a daily route of inner-city, A-road and a one-junction blast of M-way...

I kind of agree about the fuel gauge 'wedges' as well - am I right in thinking each is supposed to equate to 50 miles-worth of fuel? The last few seem to disappear a damn sight quicker than the first ones...

The permanent pump symbol in the display instead of the speed when you're down to your last 30 miles is kind of useful I guess, but boy it's annoying

Lol thats not too bad though as you can fit less fuel in the tank in relation to my car. Oh its annoying lol, but i didnt care as it wasnt my fuel/car, no way was i topping her up! Must be someone out there that has come close to BMW's estimations? (perhaps a 1kg person iwth no luggage going down a hill with a tail wind?) lol

I'm sure I can get more then the 450 miles I get out of a tank before refueling. My mpg is around 65 atm, but the the computer is telling me I'm out of fuel at 450-470 miles. When I do fill up I get 34 litres in - that means there was 7 still in the tank (enough for another 80 miles)

Yeah it would seem that way, seems a bit contradictive that? I suppose if you had a "normal" fuel gauge and no computer, you might actually inadvertantly go further?

There's a good chance that there is a reserve built into the computer's calculations as it is not a good idea to run a diesel dry (the fuel line has to be re-primed if air gets into it).

I usually run my Dooper down to a single red blob on the fuel gauge, and with anything between 10 and 30 miles left according to the computer. However, after completely filling the tank, I can only get 31 litres in
