My wife came home last night in her new Cooper D company car (her mini convertable still in the garage!)
I took it for a spin around the block and suprised by the lack of torque. Being turbo diesel I was expecting a bit more oomph!
I am missing something? Does it need run in?
How many miles on it.? Mine wasn't very strong at first. now with 8500 miles on it it does feel alot pokier. 4th and 5th gear are especially gutsy @ 1750-3500 rpm.
Maybe its just me, its only done 30 miles so I really shouldnt be driving it that hard yet!
My Leon Cupra takes off what ever gear your in and what ever speed the engine!
I'll keep you posted.

emm it's not quite got the oomph of a leon cupra, you've perhaps been a little spoilt!
for what it's worth, i think it's quick, but could be better so i am going to re-map mine once i've run it in and had its first service
I was originally looking at a Dooper Clubman as my next car but although the torque figures are impressive (and the fuel economy!!) - for me, that did not seem to transfer to the actual drive itself. Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with how smooth and quiet the Cooper D was, but it didn't really seem to have much pull with the right foot down. I appreciate that the car I tested only had a few thousand miles on the clock but even with a little more running in, I wasn't convinced that it would improve significantly. Perhaps it was a bit much to ask stepping into it from our current Cooper S, but in the end, I didn't feel that the Dooper had enough pull to keep me smiling so it's going to be two Cooper S's on the drive next month!
I test drove a cooper d and found the same thing... not much 'ooomph' which really took away from this mini-fun type image they have...
I have a 1.9 tdi 130ps but it's chipped up to 170 using Revo tuning and so it's amazingly smooth and powerful, so admittedly I'm a bit spoiled. The revo tuning is fantastic - not because a diesel becomes a sports car, but because it now drives the way it always should have done.
